Lyra Valkyria def. Tatum PaxleyThere have been teases for a split between Paxley and Tatum Paxley recently on NXT TV, so this may have been a test to see what Paxley could do on her own. That isn't to say she hasn't had competed on her own before, but she can benefit from getting more reps in singles matches, especially when she's facing someone as skilled as Valkyria. They had a well-worked match. Valkyria hasn't caught on as a character yet, but at least she's racking up wins in the meantime. Dante Chen def. Luca CrusifinoThis marked Crusifino's debut. Apparently he's a wrestling lawyer according to the promo he cut backstage beforehand. It came off as very cheesy, and the briefcase he carried to the ring for this match didn't help. What if he ever won Money in the Bank? Would he have to carry two briefcases?! In all seriousness, I can't say I was overly impressed by anything I saw from him here. Chen is a good person for him to work with, but this was an extremely basic bout and Crusifino didn't stand out at all. Eddy Thorpe def. Oro MensahAfter a short-lived push on NXT TV, Mensah has been stuck on Level Up for months and there's been no sign that will change any time soon. Hopefully he doesn't enter "designated jobber" territory like Chen and Xyon Quinn where he primarily puts over the newer people. That said, I had no problem with him losing to Thorpe here considering Thorpe has potential. They had a really fun match in the time they were allotted and both guys were able to showcase their skills. Overall ShowThorpe vs. Mensah was one of the best matches I've seen on this show in recent memory. I'd love we got at least one match like that each episode, but I realize that's not what Level Up is for. Rather, it's about spotlighting the fresher faces and giving them more experience. I enjoyed the main event and thought the opener was decent enough, though Crusifino's debut fell flat for me. Hopefully he can tweak the gimmick and improve in time.
