Omos Won the Copa Bardahl MatchThis is basically AAA's version of WWE's Royal Rumble match. This was a fairly basic Battle Royal featuring a mix of fresh faces and a number of names I haven't seen in some time (specifically El Mesias f.k.a. Mil Muertes from Lucha Underground). There wasn't anything out of the ordinary about this, but it had a few fun spots. Omos winning the trophy for the second straight year was surprising. I have no issue with it if they want to keep building him up so it's a bigger deal when he's eventually conquered. La Catalina def. Flammer to Win the Reina de Reinas ChampionshipFlammer had been champion for over three years. It makes sense that they saved the big title change for AAA's biggest show of the year. This didn't feel as remotely special as it should have as the match was standard stuff, but it was still a monumental moment for Catalina. She will have her first defense against Roxanne Perez at Worlds Collide next weekend. El Carnicero def. Psycho Clown in a Mexican Street FightCarnicero is the former Drake Morreaux, who is probably best known for the time he spent on WWE LFG. He was sent to Mexico/AAA during this most recent third season and I was wondering what happened to him, and now I have my answer. Because of the Luchasaurus-esque mask he wears, he's almost unrecognizable. This was a solid brawl with plenty of plunder, though it didn't feel that much more extreme than your average WWE Street Fight. I don't follow AAA consistently, so I don't know enough about the history between Pagano and Clown for Pagano's betrayal to do much for me, but the crowd certainly reacted and treated like a notable development. AAA World Cruiserweight Champion Rey Fenix def. Mini Vikingo, Nathan Frazer and Jack Cartwheel in a Fatal 4-Way MatchYou had to know this would be a total spotfest given who was involved, but that's exactly what I was hoping for from these four. The action was exciting and never slowed down. This stood out because it was the only one of its kind on this show. Fenix's title felt like it was legitimately in jeopardy, so the finish wasn't a foregone conclusion. Los Perros del Mal rushed the ring afterward and laid everyone out to a major pop (probably because they brought back their original entrance music and just because they're cool) despite being heels. Galeno and El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. def. The War Raiders to Win the AAA World Tag Team ChampionshipI'm familiar with Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. (he's made a ton of appearances on NXT over the last year as well as an appearance on SmackDown back in March) but not as much with Galeno. Apparently they're brothers. They were a fine choice to take the tag titles from Viking Raiders, who haven't the most memorable run from what I understand. The match was well worked while it lasted, but it was too short to be much more than that. El Grande Americano def. Dominik Mysterio in a No Disqualification Match to Win the AAA Mega ChampionshipThe No Disqualification stipulation was added at the last minute to my knowledge. This was always going to feature some shenanigans, so it was smart to establish that everything was legal. This had all the bells and whistles I expected it to and I say that as a good thing because the crowd ate up all of it. While it wasn't quite on the level of Americano's mask with "Original" El Grande Americano from May, this was still an above-average main event with emotional stakes and, of course, the correct outcome. Rey Mysterio making the three count for Americano at the end was a nice touch. Overall ShowNight 2 was easily better than Night 1 (partially due to the hot crowd they had here in Mexico City compared to Las Vegas on Friday night), and on the whole, Triplemania 34 was very entertaining. There were a number of title changes, enjoyable matches and just a different vibe than anything else WWE is producing right now. It definitely made me want to check out more of AAA going forward.
