The Young Bucks def. GOA to Advance to the AEW World Tag Team Championship No. 1 Contender's Three-Way Tag Team Match on DynamiteI liked how this was set up by the Bucks fighting off GOA during Jack Perry's match with Ricochet on Wednesday's Dynamite. I'm glad GOA have gotten consistent exposure on AEW TV since forming The Demand with Ricochet, but they were never going to win here. Nonetheless, this was a good, well-worked opener. It will be the Bucks, The Rascalz and a "wild card" team in a three-way tag match on Dynamite next week to determine the next number one contenders to the tag titles. Triangle of Madness Attacked AEW Women's World Champion TheklaThis segment was supposed to be Renee Paquette interviewing Kris Statlander in the ring about which stipulation she wanted to choose for her rematch with Thekla for the AEW Women's World Championship on Dynamite, but Triangle of Madness attacked Statlander before she could. Thekla hitting her several times with a strap led to Statlander choosing, what a surprise, a Strap match. This was a simple segment that accomplished what it needed to. AEW World Trios Champion Kevin Knight def. Scorpio SkyKnight is being pushed the same way Sky was on the verge of being pushed on his own when AEW started years ago. Sky is still skilled and reliable, so he was a nice name to put Knight up against. They had a quality contest despite the outcome never being in doubt. I thought this might lead to SkyFlight challenging JetSpeed and Adam Page for the AEW World Trios Championship, but there was no indication afterward that's the direction they're heading in. Mina Shirakawa def. Viva VanVan has been around in AEW for years but has only ever been utilized as an enhancement talent. I'm not sure if that will ever change, but she is impressive whenever she's out there. At any rate, this was fine, but I'm not sure what purpose what it was supposed to serve, especially since Shirakawa is mostly a tag team player these days and doesn't tend to win when it matters most in singles competition. The Death Riders (Marina Shafir and Wheeler Yuta) def. SkyFlight (Zayda Steel and Dante Martin)I thought this would be another showcase for Shafir and Yuta before they face Toni Storm and Orange Cassidy at Grand Slam: Australia, but it actually ended up being fairly competitive. I'm glad SkyFlight were able to score some offense before eating defeat, even though they've been positioned as stepping stones as a stable so far. Storm and Cassidy fended off Death Riders afterward. Thekla def. Brittnie BrooksI don't know that it was necessary to put Thekla in a match after we already saw her earlier, but at least it was a straightforward squash with Thekla going over quickly and decisively. Brooks was also in action on Wednesday's Dynamite, and although Thekla dominated her here, she's someone to keep an eye out for on the independent scene. On a side note, Thekla's Spear doesn't look all that devastating and she should probably stop using that as her finisher. Eddie Kingston, Ortiz and The Rascalz (Dezmond Xavier and Zachary Wentz) def. Grizzled Young Veterans, Big Bill and "Bounty Hunter" Bryan Keith in a Parking Lot BrawlThis was definitely... different. AEW has done Parking Lot Brawls before that were more entertaining than this, but I applaud their effort to do something out of the ordinary. I think having so many people involved (including Isla Dawn and Myron Reed, who interfered) made it more of a mess than it needed to be, but with any luck, this will end Kingston and Ortiz's feud with Grizzled Young Veterans and allow them to move on. AEW TNT Champion Tommaso Ciampa def. Roderick Strong and CMLL World Heavyweight Champion Claudio Castagnoli in a Three-Way Match (CMLL World Heavyweight Championship Was Not Defended)This had a little Ring of Honor flavor to it, with all three guys being synonymous with the brand at one point or another. The action was excellent as you'd expect. Of course, it would've been way too soon for Ciampa to be losing the title, but having him beat Strong and Castagnoli in his first defense was huge, and it helped that this was positioned as the main event of the show. Ciampa will defend against Kyle Fletcher coming up on Dynamite. Overall ShowThis edition of Collision felt slightly more consequential than what we normally get. The opener had stakes, there was a rare Parking Lot Brawl and the TNT title was on the line in an above-average main event. There was also hype for Dynamite (as always) as well as for Grand Slam: Australia next Saturday, so it was a solid show on the whole with only Shirakawa vs. Brooks sticking out as as random.
