Claudio Castagnoli def. Komander to Qualify for the AEW International Championship Four-Way Match at Fyter FestI like how it was acknowledged that Komander upset Castagnoli in the Continental Classic back in December and prevented him from advancing, which made this match more meaningful in addition to it being a International title qualifier. Although the outcome was never in doubt, I thought they had a really fun sprint that served as the perfect opener to the show. The Don Callis Family (Konosuke Takeshita and Roppongi Vice) def. Tomohiro Ishii and Paragon (Kyle O'Reilly and Roderick Strong)I swear, multi-man tag team matches with members of The Don Callis Family have become a permanent fixture on Collision in the last month or two. There's never anything wrong with the action, but most of the matchups blend together for me. On the bright side, The Don Callis Family almost always win, so at least they're largely being booked strong and it's not as if Paragon avenged their loss to the group from Double or Nothing. AEW Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada def. Anthony Bowens in an AEW Continental Championship Eliminator MatchThe booking of Bowens has been so bizarre. He had immediate momentum when he returned at Dynasty, but then he randomly suffered his first singles loss to Ricochet a week or two ago and another one here to Okada. I'm not saying he should've beaten either guy, but why even put him in those spots? It's not like this was such a barn burner where Bowens was made to look super impressive in defeat. This was decent yet unnecessary. Atlantis Jr. and Templario Attacked FTRFTR following up their win at Double or Nothing with some solid heel mic work was logical, though I expected them to say something about wanting to enter the AEW World Tag Team Championship picture and that didn't happen. Instead, it looks like they're going to continue spinning their wheels for the time being by facing Atlantis Jr. and Templario. That match should be good, but I assumed it'd be saved for the Arena Mexico show they're doing in a few weeks. It's possible that's when they do the rematch. Mina Shirakawa def. Skye BlueBlue's return to the ring after being away for almost a year due to injury has been so strange. She's had two matches, neither of which she won. This was designed to be a rebound win for Shirakawa and they had a nice match, but surely she could have beaten someone else considering the vast amount of women AEW has under contract. The post-match angle with these two, Toni Storm and Julia Hart set up a tag team match for Fyter Fest with Storm and Shirakawa taking on Hart and Blue. The Gates of Agony def. GMO Kaminari and Cosmo OrionThe names of Gates of Agony's opponents sound like they belong in Star Trek or something. At any rate, this was a simple squash for Gates of Agony as it should have been. After they lost that Street Fight to Big Bill and Bryan Keith, I figured they'd disappear from AEW TV appear for another few months, so hopefully they're actually in the process of being pushed and not being built up to lose again. La Faccion Ingobernable (Rush, Dralistico and The Beast Mortos) def. Top Flight and AR FoxI made the comment just last week that I wasn't sure if LFI was still a thing because they hadn't teamed together in a while and Rush and Dralistico weren't being acknowledged by that name, but so this was immaculate timing. This was an enjoyable outing while it lasted, giving LFI a win before they face Mike Bailey, Komander and the returning Kevin Knight at Fyter Fest. Mascara Dorada def. Hechicero to Qualify for the AEW International Championship Four-Way Match at Fyter FestI've become a fan of Hechicero from the many appearances he'd made in AEW over the last year, so I was happy to see him included in this mini tournament. Unfortunately, he came up short, but this was a well-wrestled match, nonetheless. I'm curious as to why this was slotted as the main event since neither guy is an AEW regular, so the crowd didn't have an incentive to care all that much beyond what was at stake. Overall ShowCollision starting so late this week due to the NBA game that preceded it (I believe the last to ever air on TNT) undoubtedly affected the viewership, but it still ended up being a serviceable show. Having two matches with AEW International Championship implications obviously helped and it had the usual entertaining wrestling. It was far from a must-see show, but mostly everything served a purpose, especially when it came to hyping up Fyter Fest on Wednesday night.
