Swerve Strickland def. AR Fox

These two could have a hundred matches against each other and it's difficult to think I'd get tired of them. They work so well together, not to mention it brings me back to their Lucha Underground days. This was a really fun opener and I appreciated that Fox was able to look competitive in defeat. I could've done without the post-match chaos, but I understand it was designed to hype up the eight-man tag team match for later in the show.

The Kingdom def. James McGregor and Brixton Nash

Interestingly, we don't see much of The Kingdom in the ring these days. They'll wrestle once in a while, but they'll largely appear in segments with Roderick Strong. It was an entertaining act at first, but it's wore out its welcome with me as of late. Matt Taven carrying around a giraffe is pretty dumb, and Strong's over-the-top antics need to evolve soon. At least this was booked as a straightforward squash for The Kingdom. I still think they'll be the ones to eventually dethrone MJF (and Adam Cole) as ROH World Tag Team Champions.

Darby Allin def. Lance Archer

This feels like a feud we would've seen during AEW's second year, but I guess not. Archer means absolutely nothing at this point, so the outcome was never in doubt, but I loved their dynamic and thought they had a really good match. Post-match, Jake Roberts emerged and revealed that Archer is forming an alliance with The Righteous, which I'm in full favor of. Anything to get The Righteous back on AEW TV more consistently.

AEW World Trios Champions The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn def. Dalton Castle and The Boys

This was preceded by a segment with The Acclaimed and Gunn celebrating 69 days as AEW World Trios Champions, and it was as ridiculous as you'd expect. It also went on for way too long. Why not set this up for next week instead of giving it away as an impromptu match? It was fine for what it was, but the crowd had zero reason to care about Castle and The Boys because they're rarely on AEW TV and they certainly weren't threats to the titles.

Mark Briscoe, Keith Lee and Dustin Rhodes def. Kip Sabian and The Workhorsemen

I know Lee and Rhodes have teamed plenty of times this year, but he really should be spotlighted on his own. He's been treading water for quite some time and I have no idea why he hasn't been properly pushed. At least he's taking on Samoa Joe for the ROH World Television Championship next Wednesday on Dynamite as that has potential. This was a standard six-man tag team match, and in a backstage segment afterward, Briscoe challenged Jay White to a match on that same show.

Willow Nightingale def. Emi Sakura

I honestly have no recollection of the original encounter these two had earlier this year, but this was a quality contest. Similar to Skye Blue, I'm all for Nightingale getting a ton of television time, but I have no clue what AEW is going for right now with her, Blue and Kris Statlander. Blue doesn't appear to be going heel after all, so the next step of the storyline isn't clear. This was the obligatory women's match of the show and didn't serve much of a purpose.

La Faccion Ingobernable (Rush and Preston Vance) and FTR def. ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions The Gates of Agony and AEW World Tag Team Champions Ricky Starks and Big Bill

Maybe the plan was always to bring back La Faccion Ingobernable as babyfaces, but I assume Bryan Danielson's injury affected things. They had nice chemistry with FTR here and it was an enjoyable main event with all action. Post-match, House of Black targeted FTR before Blackpool Combat Club's Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta made the save. So, FTR look to be transitioning from one multi-team match to another. It's a bummer we won't be getting Danielson vs. Malakai Black anytime soon.

Overall Show

WWE Crown Jewel aired earlier in the day and this show still felt like an afterthought, especially compared to last week's edition headlined by the instant classic between MJF and Kenny Omega. This was decent for what it was and we were treated to some solid wrestling, but it won't be remembered for being of Collision's stronger shows. This didn't not feel like a must-see show by any means but rather a collection of random matches for the most part.
