Bang Bang Gang (Juice Robinson and Ace Austin) def. FTRFTR just became number one contenders to the AEW World Tag Team Championship at Full Gear, so I wasn't expecting Bang Bang Gang to pick up the victory here. However, I have no issue with shaking things up once in a while to keep viewers guessing. Maybe FTR take the titles and defend against Bang Bang Gang shortly thereafter? Either way, this was an entertaining opener. The shenanigans at ringside with Stokley, Bandido, Gravity and JetSpeed were what led to FTR's loss, so it's not like it was completely clean. AEW TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher def. Ace AustinHas Austin even picked up a win in singles competition since signing with AEW? It didn't make much sense for him to be getting a title shot, especially before Fletcher defends against Mark Briscoe again at Full Gear, but it's hard to complain when this match was as great as it was. Austin had a hell of a showing despite the outcome being a foregone conclusion. Hopefully he gets more opportunities to shine like this in the not-too-distant future. TayJay def. Hyan and Maya WorldTayJay won't be taking part in Blood and Guts, but they still have their quarterfinal match in the AEW Women's World Tag Team Championship coming up soon, so this was designed to give them an additional momentum boost before then. It was kept short and sweet and was exactly what it needed to be. My only complaint is that we didn't hear from them beforehand or afterward. Jamie Hayter def. Skye Blue in Blood and Guts Advantage Match 2After Megan Bayne beat Mina Shirakawa in Match 1 on Wednesday's Dynamite, it was pretty clear Hayter would win here. I don't think both the men's and women's Blood and Guts Advantage matches needed to go to a rubber match, but whatever. This was still a solid, well-worked match. I know Hayter and Thekla have continued to feud post-WrestleDream because of their involvement in Blood and Guts, but I still think we'll get a one-on-one rematch from them at some point. Thekla def. Harley Cameron in Blood and Guts Advantage Match 3This was probably the worst match they could have done for Match 3 because of how damn predictable it was, even more than the other two. Cameron is popular, but Thekla has only suffered one loss on her own so far and she wasn't losing to Cameron (who has lost way more than she's won in AEW). It was a perfectly fine matchup and I appreciated the story they were trying to tell with Cameron fighting from underneath, but I didn't care much for this, personally. Roderick Strong def. Jon Moxley in Blood and Guts Advantage Match 3 by Count-OutWe already saw this match a few weeks ago, so although the action was enjoyable, it wasn't anything we haven't seen from them before. Strong winning by count-out (albeit with an assist from Darby Allin under the ring) was a pleasant surprise. I can't say any of this left me more interested in the men's Blood and Guts match coming up on Dynamite than I was before, but I applaud their effort, nonetheless. Overall ShowMuch like Wednesday's Dynamite, this edition of Collision was all about building toward Blood and Guts, but there was also a significant amount of hype and attention for Full Gear, which is in two weeks. In that regard, this was a successful show on both fronts. The Advantage matches weren't must-see by any stretch, but they did make some matches more meaningful than they otherwise would have been on your average episode of Collision. If you have time for any one match, though, seek out Fletcher vs. Austin. That was a blast.
