Ricky Starks and Big Bill def. FTR to Win the AEW World Tag Team Championship
I didn't think anything of this match when it was announced on Dynamite, at least in terms of the titles potentially changing hands. This was certainly a surprise, and while I'm not a big fan of Starks and Bill taking the titles (I'd rather see Starks continue to get a strong singles push), this does switch things up in the division and spare us of another FTR vs. Young Bucks bout for a bit. I also liked the layout with Starks and Bill beating down FTR beforehand as opposed to this being more competitive. We'll see if this does anything for the tag team division.
Bryan Danielson def. Kyle Fletcher
What a week for Fletcher, who had a great match with FTR at WrestleDream, filled in for Sammy Guevara against Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho on Wednesday, and took on Danielson here. Mark Davis is out injured for the time being, so I'm all for Fletcher getting some singles spotlight in the meantime. This was a blast and had excellent action. I appreciated that Fletcher was made to look credible in defeat. More of this while we have Danielson full-time, please.
Bullet Club Gold (Juice Robinson and The Gunns) def. Metalik, Angelico and Gravity
This was your usual Bullet Club Gold showcase with Robinson and The Gunns going over decisively. Metalik, Angelico and Gravity were a random trio, but hey, at least it wasn't the entire Spanish Announce Table. Jay White, holding MJF's AEW World Championship belt, spoke afterward about MJF ahead of their newly-announced Full Gear match. I'm all for Bullet Club Gold and specifically White getting more of a push on both Dynamite and Collision.
AEW World Trios Champions The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn def. Iron Savages (Bronson, Boulder and Jacked Jameson)
Wasn't it during a match with The Acclaimed that Iron Savages started doing the dumb "ass-eating" bit? Ugh. I'm sure there are people who will find it funny and thought that these trios were perfect for each other, but I am not among those people. I'm not even sure why this had to happen since The Acclaimed and Gunn just retained their titles on Wednesday's Dynamite. This was whatever. I'd like to see the champs work with actual trios and not rely on the scissoring/comedy crap so frequently.
"Timeless" Toni Storm def. Kiera Hogan
Storm continues to be one of the best parts of AEW programming right now. Her "Timeless" persona is a treat and has made her matches even more entertaining than they already were. Unfortunately, Hogan is just a bland babyface these days, and that's a shame because I dug her heel work in IMPACT. This existed to give Storm another victory. I could certainly see her challenge (and win) the AEW TBS Championship before long.
ROH World Champion Eddie Kingston def. Komander
Komander became number one contender on Friday's Rampage by winning a four-way match. Yes, it was probably the only match he's won on AEW TV that has mattered. No, he was never going to capture the title here. Nonetheless, they had a good match and their styles meshed nicely. Kingston is getting more television time as ROH World Champion and that's wonderful, but are AEW regulars who don't watch Ring of Honor supposed to care about the title now that he's holding it or give them an incentive to tune into the weekly ROH TV show that he isn't on?
Luchasaurus and Nick Wayne Attacked Adam Copeland and Darby Allin
As much as I enjoyed their segment on Wednesday's Dynamite, I thought it was weird Copeland didn't seem to mind how Christian has been acting this past year and was ready to reunite with him on a whim. Thankfully, he mentioned his heel behavior here and called him out again. Christian popped up on the big screen to say he'd respond on Title Tuesday. The angle that followed with Luchasaurus and Wayne laying out Copeland and Allin was well done and effective in putting some heat on them.
Overall Show
Having this air an hour early so the full two hours didn't air opposite of WWE Fastlane was a wise call. Hopefully they do that any time WWE has a pay-per-view going forward because they have to know the ratings will take a hit. This turned out to be a quality show with a strong first hour. The energy died down after Danielson vs. Fletcher, but I liked the show-closing angle. I'm curious what storylines will take shape on Collision going forward or if it will remain more of an extension of Dynamite. I prefer the former.
