AEW Dynamite: Fyter Fest Review - June 4, 2025

CRU Interrupted Will Ospreay

Everything with Ospreay, Adam Page and Swerve Strickland has had my attention, so I was excited to hear Ospreay challenge Strickland to a match next week after their heated altercation backstage at Collision. However, CRU coming out felt so random because they've had nothing to do with Ospreay as of late. Ospreay beating one of them on the Collision portion of Fyter Fest was fine, but you'd think Tony Khan would want to make them more than an enhancement talent after they won their feud with Top Flight.

AEW World Champion Jon Moxley def. Mark Briscoe (Non-Title)

Briscoe is the king of taking the fight to people and losing when it matters most yet always looking credible in defeat. That was once again the case here and it made for an enjoyable outing. For whatever reason, Moxley's television matches tend to be significantly better than his title defenses on pay-per-view. The outcome was never in doubt here, but the crowd was behind Briscoe throughout.

AEW Women's World Champion "Timeless" Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa def. Skye Blue and Julia Hart

I guess Storm was willing to forgive Shirakawa for attacking her before Double or Nothing. That aside, this was a perfectly solid tag team match. Storm and Shirakawa are fun as a duo, but they hardly feel like a threat at the moment, especially with Blue losing yet again. Meanwhile, Mercedes Mone was a total non-factor at ringside. This was quite the step backward for Storm and Mone following the talking segment they had that closed last week's Dynamite.

"Speedball" Mike Bailey, Komander and Kevin Knight Interrupted The Hurt Syndicate

Hurt Syndicate's promo largely existed so MJF could (again) acknowledge how he has the AEW World Championship in his sights and that he's willing to go through Mistico at Grand Slam: Mexico to get one step closer to contention. MVP told the babyface trio that they could earn a shot at the AEW World Tag Team Championship if they won against La Faccion Ingobernable, so I liked how this served as a seamless segue into the next match.

Kevin Knight, "Speedball" Mike Bailey and Komander def. La Faccion Ingobernable (The Beast Mortos, Dralistico and Rush)

Prior to his brief hiatus from AEW TV, Knight was feuding with La Faccion Ingobernable, so this was a logical match to do. It was the type of thing you'd usually see on Collision, but I'm glad it got the Dynamite treatment. It was as fast-paced as you'd expect and the action was really entertaining. Hurt Syndicate reemerged afterward to make Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin and MVP vs. Knight, Bailey and Komander official for Summer Blockbuster next week.

AEW World Trios Champion Powerhouse Hobbs def. Max Caster

This was another one of Caster's open challenges. I've said before how good of a role this is for Caster, but he never wins, so it's going to get old after a while if it hasn't already. Hobbs is a fan favorite, so the crowd was happy to see him squash Caster, so he's also one-third of the Trios champs and thus I don't envision him getting a singles push anytime soon. In other words, this was a waste of time.

AEW International Champion Kenny Omega def. Mascara Dorada, Brody King and Claudio Castagnoli in a Four-Way Match

This was never going to be anything less than an excellent main event, and sure enough, they killed it. All four of these guys are awesome and they delivered the hot match they were capable of. Omega doesn't defend the AEW International Championship often (I believe this was only the second time since he won it in March), but he once again reminded the world why he's still among the very best. The title wasn't in true jeopardy whatsoever, but from an in-ring standpoint, this was a blast.

Overall Show

Despite being branded as a four-hour event, the Dynamite portion of Fyter Fest was technically only the first two hours while Collision was the latter two hours. Compared to your usual edition of Dynamite, this was a slightly-above-average show, but it was far from pay-per-view quality. The main event was obviously the highlight of the episode, but if you missed the show, you didn't miss much otherwise.
