AEW Dynamite: Holiday Bash Review - December 17, 2025

Jon Moxley def. Roderick Strong in a Continental Classic Blue League Match

Strong beat Moxley by count-out in a Blood and Guts Advantage match, so this gave Moxley a chance to not only avenge that loss but also pick up a much-needed win in general. They had the quality contest you'd expect, though it went a little longer than it probably needed to. I thought them starting the show right away without any entrances was a nice touch since AEW doesn't do that often.

The Elite def. The Don Callis Family (Hechicero, IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Konosuke Takeshita and AEW Unified Champion Kazuchika Okada) in a $1,000,000 Match

Tony Khan desperately needs to move away from doing so many matches for money in 2026. I hope he makes that his New Year's resolution. It's such a tired gimmick, especially with The Elite and The Don Callis Family. Nonetheless, this was an entertaining six-man tag team outing made better by the hot crowd. This should be it for The Elite vs. The Don Callis Family for a while, and we know Okada vs. Takeshita is imminent, but I'm curious where The Elite go from here. Hey, The Opps need some new challengers to their AEW World Trios Championship...

MJF Crashed the AEW World Championship Contract Signing with AEW World Champion and AEW World Trios Champion Samoa Joe, "Hangman" Adam Page and Swerve Strickland

Finally! I'm aware MJF wasn't off AEW TV for more than three months, but his presence has still been sorely missed on these shows. The contract signing was already solid, but it immediately improved as soon as MJF showed up (to a massive reaction, might I add). His material may not be for everyone, but I thought it was hilarious and I'm glad he explained why he'd cash in his guaranteed title shot in a four-way. The Worlds Ends main event as a three-way would have been a rehash from the AEW World Championship match at Revolution 2024 (right down to Joe walking in as champ), so adding MJF is a significant upgrade and makes the outcome more unpredictable.

AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone, ROH Women's World Champion Athena and MegaProblems def. AEW Women's World Tag Team Champions Babes of Wrath and Timeless Love Bombs

We've seen so many of these "all-star"-esque tag team matches from the women (and even the men) this year that they don't pack as much of a punch as they once did, but this was a well-worked match, nonetheless. It existed so Mone could pin Nightingale, setting up her and Athena for the first shot at the AEW Women's World Tag Team Championship at Worlds End. MegaProblems would've made more sense in that spot, but maybe they'll save them for later on.

Pac def. Kyle Fletcher in a Continental Classic Gold League Match

This wasn't hurt by the heel vs. heel dynamic thanks to this show emanating from England, which made Pac the automatic fan favorite. They had the great match they were capable of. Fletcher lost to Mike Bailey in an upset on last week's Dynamite, so I was surprised he lost again here. He isn't winning the whole thing anyway, so I guess it isn't that big of a deal.

ROH World Champion Bandido and AEW National Champion Ricochet Were the Last Remaining Competitors in the Dynamite Dozen Battle Royale

This ran past the two-hour mark, but it was still technically a part of the Dynamite portion of the three-hour block. At any rate, it was a fun Battle Royal while it lasted. I still don't think it makes sense that we're getting a grueling Continental Classic for a shot at the AEW Continental Championship and a Battle Royal for a shot at the AEW World Championship, but whatever. Bandido vs. Ricochet for the Dynamite Diamond Ring on next week's episode should be a blast.

Overall Show

This was one of my favorite editions of Dynamite in recent memory. They packed the show with matches and moments that mattered, making for a very enjoyable two-plus hours (I'll have thoughts on the first half of this week's Collision in a separate review), and the atmosphere in Manchester was awesome. MJF's return was obviously the highlight, but the rest of the show was very good as well.
