AEW TNT Champion Kevin Knight def. MJFDarby Allin told MJF last week that he'd have to put something on the line if he wants a rematch for the AEW World Championship, many (myself included) believed that MJF might take the AEW TNT Championship from Knight to set up a Title for Title match at Double or Nothing. Not only am I glad that won't be the case, I'm happy Knight scored a clean win over MJF. That's huge for him. Sure, it isn't ideal for Knight to be beating the guy who will likely be getting the world title back by Double or Nothing, but MJF will be fine. Hey, maybe they have a rubber match at some point. Either way, this was an entertaining opener, and Brody King's post-match promo hyped up his championship clash with Allin in the main event. The Brawling Birds def. Jordan Blade and Emily JayeNow that both Jamie Hayter and Alex Windsor have unsuccessfully challenged Thekla for the AEW Women's World Championship this month, it looks like they'll be setting their sights back on the AEW Women's World Tag Team Championship. All signs point to that title win happening at All In this August in England, so they'll have to kill some time before then with squash wins like what we got here. AEW International Champion Kazuchika Okada def. Ace AustinI'm a big fan of Austin and his potential, but the guy never wins anything, at least on AEW TV. Since Okada vs. Konosuke Takeshita has already been announced for Double or Nothing, there was no chance Austin was going over, but I thought they had a quality contest despite the obvious outcome. I just wish it was explained why this even happened because it's not like Austin has been focused on at all. Adam Copeland and Christian Cage def. RPG ViceThere's been some setup for this match in recent weeks and I appreciate that we got the match. It would've been easy to keep Copeland and Christian out of the ring until Double or Nothing, but it felt slightly special for them to be in action on Dynamite. Sure, RPG Vice were hardly a threat, but they played their roles well and it was a nice match to keep Copeland and Christian's momentum going. AEW Women's Tag Team Champions The Divine Dominion def. Hikaru Shida and Kris StatlanderShida and Statlander are far from a cohesive unit, so this was less about the possibility of them becoming champs together and more about teasing tension, especially with Statlander not approving of Shida's actions. That said, they were better competition than the lower-level talent Divine Dominion tend to face. They had a solid match. The split between Shida and Statlander has to be imminent. Rush def. Steven FuerteRush has been racking up wins as of late, but my issue is that it rarely leads anywhere. In fact, that's been a recurring problem with him for years. I want to see him get a serious singles push, but the booking is never consistent. On the bright side, he was super over in front of this crowd as he dominated Fuerte and went over quickly and decisively as he should have. AEW World Champion Darby Allin def. Brody KingSimilar to other matches on this show, the finish was foreshadowed ahead of time (Allin wasn't dropping the title a week after winning it), but that didn't take away from my enjoyment of it. These two have always worked well together and this was no exception. It was also cool to see King competing for the top title again, though he will have to pick up an important victory eventually. Allin vs. Knight is already official for next week, so I assume Allin will be defending the title most weeks if not every week leading into Double or Nothing. No complaints! Overall ShowThis was another super solid edition of Dynamite. We were treated to three title matches and all of them held my interest, specifically the opener and the main event. The idea of Allin having weekly title defenses heading into Double or Nothing is definitely appealing in my opinion. I'm not sure what the two squashes have to do with Double or Nothing, but the build for the event on the rest of this episode was well done.
