AEW International Champion Kenny Omega def. Blake Christian (Non-Title)I'm sure Omega has a lot of say in who he wrestles on Dynamite, so while I'm sure this was something he was in favor of, Christian never stood a chance of winning, not to mention the guy's a glorified jobber in AEW. In other words, this wasn't a match I particularly cared about, but at least they kept it short and sweet. The post-match promos from Omega, Mike Bailey and Ricochet were fine, but it's not like any of them are the strongest on the mic. The Hurt Syndicate Confronted MVP and Were Interrupted by Big Bill and Bryan KeithI still have no idea where this angle with MJF and MVP is headed, but it has my attention. Both of them are very talented talkers and I'm definitely down for them having some sort of an alliance. I'm also looking forward to seeing what that means for the rest of Hurt Syndicate. Bill tried to explain why he should get a shot at their AEW World Tag Team Championship (he and Ricky Starks lost the belts last year and never received a rematch), but that doesn't mean I care. Kyle Fletcher def. Brody KingThis was Fletcher's first match since losing to Omega in that excellent Steel Cage match at Revolution. Although it was a must-win situation for him, I appreciated that this was a competitive contest with King being made to look credible in defeat. They were given an ample amount of time and had an enjoyable outing. Powerhouse Hobbs saving King from Fletcher and Mark Davis afterward seamlessly segued into the subsequent match. Powerhouse Hobbs def. Mark DavisHonestly, this belonged on Collision and didn't end up being very good for whatever reason, but the best thing I can say about it is that it was brief. Plus, Hobbs has had a recurring role on Dynamite and Collision this year, so it's encouraging that he's been allowed to maintain momentum. He'd benefit from moving away from The Don Callis Family since he's been involved with them on and off since returning from injury late last year. Swerve Strickland and Jon Moxley Faced OffIt's only been less than two weeks and Moxley vs. Strickland is already a much better feud than Moxley vs. Cope. Strickland is back in the AEW World Championship mix where he belongs and Moxley didn't speak in riddles as much as he normally does. Strickland emphasizing that he's more hardcore than Moxley makes me worried their Dynasty match might get some sort of a stipulation, but otherwise, this segment was successful in building toward their championship clash. Top Flight def. Alex Findley and Devo KnightTop Flight are Minnesota natives, so it was nice that AEW got them on the show in their home state. They haven't been aggressively pushed in years, so I'm not optimistic that this is leading to a renewed push for him. In fact, Lio Rush and Action Andretti were sitting in the crowd, so unfortunately, that feud isn't over yet. If nothing else, this was a simple showcase for Top Flight that didn't overstay its welcome. Konosuke Takeshita def. Mark BriscoeTakeshita is still in rebound mode after losing the AEW International Championship at Revolution and Briscoe just fell short of becoming number one contender in the finals of the mini number one contender's tournament last week, so both guys feel directionless at the moment. To their credit, they had a quality contest. Takeshita racks up another win and Briscoe never loses anything in defeat because he'll always be over. Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford def. AEW Women's World Champion "Timeless" Toni Storm and Thunder RosaTony Khan must be very high on Bayne if this was the second straight Dynamite she's headlined. That's in addition to her pinning Storm to win for her team here. This didn't feel like a main event, but it was well worked and I can't complain about the women getting spotlighted for a change. Bayne feels like a genuine threat to Storm's title and I'd love to see AEW actually go all the way with her by booking a title change at Dynasty. Overall ShowThe smaller venue looked cool on television and the crowd was largely lively throughout the night. On the whole, however, this was still very much an average show. It's odd how so much feels up in the air right now with Dynasty quickly approaching. There was such a long build before Revolution and now Dynasty is right around the corner. There wasn't anything I despised from this show, but it was hardly a home run, either. What we got was solid yet forgettable.
