Darby Allin Won the Royal Rampage Match to Earn an AEW World Championship Opportunity at Grand SlamRoyal Rampage is a cool concept that AEW fans can look forward to on the Rampage after Blood and Guts every year as something different is always at stake. This year, it was an AEW World title shot at Grand Slam. We have All In and All Out before then, so there's no guarantee Allin will be facing Strickland, who he has history with from last year. This was along the same lines as the last two installments of Royal Rumble, but it was well done and Allin winning for the second straight year was surprising since he already has an AEW TNT Championship match coming up at All In. Kris Statlander def. Leila GreyThe commentators noted that it's been a while since we last saw Grey on AEW TV. She was with Jade Cargill before Cargill left the company, so she's been floundering in Ring of Honor ever since. This was booked as a straightforward squash for Statlander as it should have been considering she has a CMLL World Women's Championship eliminator match coming up on Wednesday's Dynamite with Willow Nightingale. Lance Archer def. AlejandroShockingly, this lasted longer than Statlander vs. Grey, though that's obviously because Archer took his time putting Alejandro away. He did his usual shtick where he dragged the dude from the back to the ring and beat him decisively. It's been announced that he's facing Will Ospreay on Wednesday's Dynamite, so this obviously existed to (attempt to) make him feel like a threat before then. The Don Callis Family (Kyle Fletcher and Rush) def. The Outrunners, Private Party, and The Righteous in a Four-Way Tag Team MatchI have no idea why they couldn't have announced that a future shot at the AEW World Tag Team Championship was on the line here, even if it went down on Dynamite or Collision in the next week or two. That's probably because Don Callis Family won and they're heels, so them against The Young Bucks is an odd matchup. This was a decent match, but it felt like your usual Rampage main event in that it was fairly pointless other than giving Don Callis Family a win. Overall ShowIt was a tale of two shows. It started strong with the Royal Rampage match, but everything else was inconsequential. The two squashes were short and sweet, but they're what we're used to seeing on Rampage. The random four-way tag team main event didn't help matters, but Royal Rampage alone made this a slightly-above-average episode by Rampage standards.
