![]() By Graham "GSM" Matthews Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy def. The Lucha Dragons to Win the NXT Tag Team Championship Well, that was quite the shocker. Everything up until the finish was nothing special, but the two teams work well together. Plus, it beats The Lucha Dragons facing off against The Vaudevillians yet again. The crowd came to life when Blake and Murphy got the three count since nobody saw it coming and you don't get surprises like this very often. In fact, we haven't had a title change on NXT TV (aside from the live specials) in well over a year. Blake and Murphy as champs breathes fresh air in the tag team division and if given time, the rumored rematch at the next live special could be really fun. Adrian Neville def. Tyson Kidd in an NXT Championship Tournament Quarterfinals Match Have Neville and Kidd ever contested anything less than a great match? Of all the matches on the show, I was glad this one got as much time as it did. The action was extremely entertaining and despite how many times they've faced each other over the last year, they still managed to pull out a few innovative spots, especially down the stretch. I'm surprised at all the babyfaces going over in this tournament, but it makes for a lot of intriguing matches.

![]() By Graham "GSM" Matthews I heard a few rumblings about Lucha Underground during its development, but nothing that made me think twice about watching it. The only wrestling I watch weekly are WWE and TNA. It's not because I "hate" the independent scene or anything like that. I simply don't have the time to watch anything else, and truth be told, the independent scene doesn't hold my interest usually. I gave Ring of Honor a shot over the summer and fell out of it by the fall because it wasn't convenient (I don't get the Sinclair Network where I live). I figured I'd give Lucha Underground a shot when it made its debut on the El Rey Network to at least say I did. On Halloween, only an hour or so before leaving for Salem, I came across a link online to the show's first episode. I read reviews of the program's pilot and saw it received positive reviews, so I was inclined to give it a watch. After one episode, I was hooked and I haven't missed an episode since. One of the leading reasons behind that is because, as noted before, I don't have much time to watch anything beyond WWE and TNA, and Lucha Underground is an easy viewing because it's always under an hour, much like NXT. ![]() By Graham "GSM" Matthews Michael Cole Interviewed Seth Rollins I've been saying for months, especially in recent weeks, that Rollins has become WWE's brightest star, and if that wasn't evident in the Triple Threat match at the Royal Rumble (you'd have to be blind to not see it), it definitely was here. He seemed so composed and didn't look a loser at all coming out of his loss in the title match. I found it really interesting that a potential one-on-one match between Lesnar and Rollins was teased. I don't think that's in the cards right now, but it'd be one hell of a match if their encounter on Sunday was any indication. The "I'm not leaving until Lesnar forces me to leave" bit was great and yet another sign that he's destined to be world champion before long. Michael Cole Interviewed WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar Lesnar absolutely thrives in these sit-down interviews. That shouldn't come as much of a surprise because it's been the case for years, even dating back to his UFC days, but he shines in this environment. He didn't say anything new per se, as most of it was him essentially putting himself over, but it was excellently executed. And let's not understate Paul Heyman's performance here which was stellar as usual. The way he made Cole feel inferior with his intense questioning was fantastic and made him come across so dislikable. I also loved his tease for encountering Reigns later on in the night, giving viewers something to look forward to. #AskGSM Edition #63: WWE Royal Rumble Fallout, WrestleMania 31 Plans, Roman Reigns Backlash, More1/26/2015 ![]() By Graham "GSM" Matthews #AskGSM is a weekly Q&A video where I, Graham "GSM" Matthews, answer fan questions from Facebook, Twitter and YouTube in regards to the world of wrestling. Nothing is off limits, and this week’s edition touches upon a variety of topics including:
![]() By Graham "GSM" Matthews Tyson Kidd and Cesaro def. The New Day (Kickoff Match) It was my understanding that Xavier Woods has been injured for quite some time, so if they knew that coming in, why would they bother advertising him in the six-man tag team match? I had zero desire to see yet another rematch between these two teams, but it was easily the best wrestled match they've have yet (and hopefully this is the end of the line for this feud). The Philadelphia crowd took a liking to Cesaro and Kidd and it was cool to see them score a win for once. I'd love to think this was to set them up as the latest challengers for The Usos, but it might have just been a one-off. The Ascension def. The New Age Outlaws The match itself was fine for what it was, but it was obvious the only thing worth noting about this match was the connection The New Age Outlaws had with the crowd. If they weren't as over as they were, this match would've fallen flat. However, the only purpose this bout served was putting over The Ascension and it succeeded in that respect. I don't know if it will do anything to help The Ascension going forward, but it will be disappointing if they go back to facing no-name tag teams after this. |
