Konosuke Takeshita def. Ryan NemethFor someone I knew nothing about before recently, Takeshita has impressed the hell out of me in the handful of matches he's had in AEW, especially his performance against Adam Page a few weeks ago on Dynamite. I don't know if his AEW run is temporary or if he's here to stay, but I'm enjoying it for however long it lasts. I largely find Nemeth to be abysmal in the ring, but this was decent and essentially served as a showcase for Takeshita.

The Buy-In: Hookhausen def. Tony Nese and Mark SterlingHook and Danhausen are a popular tandem and the crowd was certainly into them here. I still don't want to see them team in the long run as Hook has much more potential on his own, but it served its purpose here and the match was what it was supposed to be. It was also perfectly slotted on the pre-show. I still find Sterling to be an absolute goof, but even he played his role well. I also appreciated that this didn't overstay its welcome.
Jay Bradley def. Brady PiercePierce looked like a knock-off Tyler Breeze back when he was going as Mike Dalton in his early WWE NXT days. I remember him from the appearances he made on AEW Dark as an enhancement talent a year or two ago. However, this was all about Bradley, who flew solo without Wrecking Ball Legursky this week. He got good heat from the crowd and the match was solid, so this worked well as the opener.
Darby Allin def. Brandon CutlerAllin wrestling on Dark is a rare nowadays, and that's because he's too big of a star to be a regular on the show. That said, he hasn't been doing much of note as of late and hasn't been positioned as anyone important on his own in a while, so this shouldn't have been too surprising. This was a really fun opener with Allin wasting no time in taking the fight to Cutler and Cutler playing his role well. Allin will face Kyle O'Reilly at Double or Nothing, and as well-wrestled as that's bound to be, it's unnecessary addition to an already loaded card.
