By Graham "GSM" Matthews #AskGSM is a weekly Q&A video where I, Graham "GSM" Matthews, answer fan questions from Facebook, Twitter and YouTube in regards to the world of wrestling. Nothing is off limits, and this week’s edition touches upon a variety of topics including:

By Greg Lowenthal Hey guys, I'm taking this week's Lowdown to examine the Battleground PPV. So let's get started. The PPV overall had a nice flair for the dramatics and allowed for the WWE to help progress the "Authority" storyline to increase the overall progression of the current storylines. But, I honestly felt that Roman Reigns should have been the WWE World Heavyweight Champion because even though a Cena-Lesnar is what the fans really want, Reigns has proven over the past few months that he is indeed a championship-caliber superstar who honestly deserves a title bout of some type. By Graham "GSM" Matthews WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos def. Rybaxel (Non-title) We've seen these two teams clash countless times in the past, but this was still a good matchup. Rybaxel looked like equals to The Usos throughout despite not being built up as threats beforehand. The only issue with this match was its finish. Why, after four years and while they're at their peak, would The Usos start doing the stupid "twin magic" trick now? It made even less sense because they're babyfaces. I hope this doesn't lead to The Usos turning heel or setting up a series of matches with Rybaxel. Both are terrible ideas. It's time to call up The Ascension to begin their feud with The Usos over the titles. Bo Dallas and Dolph Ziggler Crashed 'Miz TV' Miz continues to play his role extremely well and his interaction with Dallas was entertaining. His interview with his parents at ringside was a bit odd, but it was hilarious to see Miz's dad again for those that remember him from his last appearance back in September. Ziggler had a few good lines as well that subsequently led into his match with Dallas. It's encouraging to see a midcard rivalry get some talking time for once. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Bad Influence def. Minoru Tanaka and Koji Kanemoto I'm no Japanese wrestling historian, but from what I understand, Tanaka and Kanemoto are a top tandem in Japan. With that said, having them square off against one of America's very best in Bad Influence in the opening match was a smart move. The action was exciting and the two teams worked well together. I was surprised to see Bad Influence win cleanly, but it was a nice rare victory for them. Bad Influence aren't even under contract to TNA anymore, and they spoke afterward backstage about being the best in the business. How embarrassing must that be for TNA? Either way, this match helped set the tone for the remainder of the night. Gail Kim def. Knockouts Champion Madison Rayne (Non-title) Obviously, this was taped when Kim was still a heel and feuding with Rayne over the title. Kim and Rayne are two of the stronger workers in the division and they had a good match here, but they've had better bouts in the past. Since the match didn't feature any Wrestle-1 talent, the live crowd was less inclined to care. They worked hard during the time they were given, but it was as good of a match as it could have been. Kim winning, I assume, was done to set up a rematch between them for Lockdown later that month. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Adam Rose def. Heath Slater This was the third time these two have clashed on Superstars in recent months and it wasn't any more interesting this time than it was the prior two times. The bit at ringside with the Rosebuds dressing Hornsoggle up in the Rose gear was comical, but the match itself was forgettable and more of the same from the two. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Slater the one who eliminated Cesaro from the Intercontinental Championship Battle Royal at Battleground? And now he's jobbing on Superstars? What gives? Alberto Del Rio def. R-Truth This was yet another rematch that I had zero interest in seeing again. Del Rio, while a very good worker, bores me to tears along with Truth. Who thought it would be a good idea to put them in the ring together? I was in the arena for when they first faced off and that match was terrible, so this was a slight improvement. Even still, it felt like a waste of time. |
