#AskGSM Edition #399: Are the Growing Relationships Between Wrestling Companies Built to Last?7/21/2021 #AskGSM is a weekly Q&A video where I, Graham "GSM" Matthews, answer fan questions from Facebook, Twitter and YouTube in regards to the world of wrestling. Nothing is off limits, and this week's edition touches upon a variety of topics including:

NXT General Manager William Regal Confronted Samoa JoeThis was the Samoa Joe we all knew and loved from before he got hurt early last year. He was aggressive, intense and was ready to fight. Regal instead told him to handle it "peacefully," but there's no way that's what happens. There's also no way NXT would tease Joe getting physical this much if he wasn't returning to the ring soon, hopefully against Kross. Then again, and this is a genuine question: Does that match still have appeal to people now that Kross has been beaten and in embarrassing fashion no less? Nonetheless, this was a solid segment to kick off the show.
The Blade def. Ryan MantellThe Blade of all people kicking off the show was an odd choice, but the best thing I can say about this is that it was kept short and sweet. That isn't to say he's terrible by any means (I actually enjoyed his work as Braxton Sutter in IMPACT a few years ago), but I simply have no interest in Blade, The Butcher and The Bunny as characters. This was designed to give Blade some last-minute credibility before he faces Orange Cassidy on Wednesday's Dynamite.
The Teams Were Decided in the NWA Champions SeriesThere are going to be four teams in this NWA Champions Series with each team consisting of co-captains: Nick Aldis and Melina, Aron Stevens and Taryn Terrell, Austin Idol and Kamille, and Da Pope and Velvet Sky. Each team selected their combatants (I won't list them all here), alternates were assigned to each team, and we found out who from each team will be facing who. They tried to spice it up with some of the promos, but I found the process to be a bit boring. I'm also not super high on the idea as it's slightly confusing on paper and may be a lot for fans to follow. Couldn't they have just done a number one contender's match to determine who will be next in line to challenge for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship? All of the ongoing storylines are pretty much being put on pause for the time being and I'm skeptical that it will be what's best for Powerrr in the coming weeks.
John Cena Addressed Universal Champion Roman ReignsCena hasn't been tied to one brand or the other in years, so I have no problem with him appearing on both brands heading into SummerSlam (though I believe he's likely be relegated to SmackDown for the most part). He cut his typical Cena promo here that the crowd ate up every word of where he put Reigns on notice and promised to see him on Friday night. We haven't seen Cena interact with the new crop of talent at all, so his brief interaction with Riddle was cool. I could have done without some of the insider talk from Cena about Reigns, though. AEW does it from time and time and it annoys me when they do it, too.
