Daniel Bryan speaks his mind to Stephanie McMahon.
By Graham "GSM" Matthews Stephanie McMahon Interrupted Daniel Bryan Think about this for a minute: John Cena competed in one of the best matches of the year thus far last night with an injured elbow. You have to respect the guy for that and for holding off on surgery until after SummerSlam. Now the event has come and gone, it's good to finally see him take the time off he deserves. Bryan cut a great promo and it was nice to see him tone down his usual antics to take the serious route instead. I was curious as to what side Stephanie would be taking in this feud, but I'm not at all surprised that she'll also be heel going forward. This was one of her better showings on the mic since returning to television and her future confrontations with Bryan should be just as entertaining. The crowd was red hot for Bryan and it left viewers hooked as to whether he'd be appearing again later in the night. Cody Rhodes def. Daimen Sandow These two once again provided a nice matchup that was fun while it lasted. It didn't receive any more time than it did at SummerSlam, and I was disappointed that this rematch was given away for free without any real hype. They are obviously telling a story with Rhodes winning here, so I have no problem with Sandow taking another loss. It would make sense for Sandow and Rhodes to fight for the briefcase in their next match against one another seeing how he's earned the right at this point.

By Carson Koschik Wow. In what was supposed to be WWE's "2nd biggest PPV of the year", WWE easily put on the most exciting and engaging show since Extreme Rules 2012. From the amazing storytelling to the phenomenal match quality, WWE hit all the notes they needed to and made SummerSlam an event that fans will remember for a long time. While I would like the hand out the praises to everybody who participated on the show, it's time to single out the best of the best. Best Match Award Winner: CM Punk vs. Brock Lesnar There have been a lot of instances where the build-up to a match is miles better than the match itself, but rarely has there been a time where the almost impossible to live up to hype is completely exceeded in the match itself. Well, that happened at SummerSlam when CM Punk faced his former best-friends client, Brock Lesnar. The match was filled with brutal spots, amazing wrestling, and above all, perfect story telling. In the end, CM Punk would fall victim to an F-5 on a chair, but even in a loss Punk looked like a million bucks. Lesnar also proved that he may possibly be one of the best big men in history.
John Cena and Daniel Bryan compete for the WWE title.
By Graham "GSM" Matthews Rob Van Dam def. United States Champion Dean Ambrose by Disqualification (Kickoff Match) WWE continues to raise the bar as far as the Kickoff matches go, as this was a very fun match that got the crowd pumped for the show. It could have easily been featured on the main card, but it was certainly successful in persuading undecided fans on purchasing the pay-per-view. These two work very well together and I hope this isn't the last we see of them competing over the U.S. title. RVD picked up the win while Ambrose retained the title, so the finish worked out well for everyone involved. It also helped further the feud between the other Shield members and Big Show and Mark Henry, a tag team title match we're bound to get at some point. Night of Champions is just around the corner, so a rematch between RVD and Ambrose is quite likely. Bray Wyatt def. Kane in a Ring of Fire Match I was surprised to see this match open the show, but I guess there weren't many other matches that could have done the deed. The in-ring work was decent, but nothing out of the ordinary for the most part. We got our first glimpse of Wyatt in the ring, and he and Kane made the most out of the absurd stipulation. It was a cool visual and all, but Harper and Rowan putting out the flames momentarily so they can enter the ring to attack Kane defeated the whole purpose of the stipulation. Regardless, I'm happy Wyatt went over and the post-match attack on Kane leads viewers to believe that they might be brainwashing him sooner rather than later. By Carson Koschik SummerSlam is almost here, and the card is looking pretty damn stacked. Cena vs. Bryan, RVD vs. Dean, the Best vs. the Beast. I think it's safe to say that SummerSlam is looking like it's going to be better than WrestleMania, and a big reason for that is that it is extremely unpredictable. While it the results may be up in the air for fans (except for Dolphins, of course), I will try my best to predict the outcome of every match while also giving the odds on favourite to win and my personal wants. Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Rob Van Dam - United States Championship Pre-Show Match Odds: While the Shield have been on a roll in 2013, Ambrose and his comrades have been keeping quiet in terms of in-ring action as of late. Rob Van Dam on the other hand, has been winning matches left and right on both Raw and Smackdown, giving him the edge walking into this pre-show championship match. Want: Anyone who calls Rob Van Dam a part-timer is an idiot. The Rock is a part-timer. Brock is a part-timer. Rob Van Dam is a guy who wrestles every week on free TV and house shows, making him as much an active member of the roster as Daniel Bryan or Christian. That being said, Rob Van Dam didn't return to the WWE to steal the glory, he came to essentially do what Chris Jericho has been doing for the past two years: put talent over. While it would be fun to see Rob Van Dam win championship gold again in the WWE, Dean Ambrose is the star of tomorrow and needs a win over another established veteran to further cement himself as a future world champion. Prediction: Rob Van Dam will win the match, but not the championship. Just as RVD goes to the top rope to finish Dean off with the Five Star Frog Splash, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns will emerge from the crowd and push him off, giving Mr. Monday Night the DQ win. But the saga of the Shield won't end in the pre-show, as the Big Show and Mark Henry will make the save for RVD, setting up a Tag Team Championship match between the Shield and the team of Mark Henry and the Big Show for later in the night. |
