By Graham "GSM" Matthews #AskGSM is a weekly Q&A video where I, Graham "GSM" Matthews, answer fan questions from Facebook, Twitter and YouTube in regards to the world of wrestling. Nothing is off limits, and this week’s edition touches upon a variety of topics including:

By Graham "GSM" Matthews R-Truth def. Heath Slater Another week, another R-Truth match. Sigh. It has nothing to do with him, it has all to do with WWE having him compete against the same people every week, and this felt like a glorified house show match. Perhaps the most entertaining part of the match came when Xavier Woods said on commentary that because Slater owns a victory over Seth Rollins from last year, he deserves a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Does that mean everyone who beat Rollins before he became champ deserves a title opportunity? No, it had absolutely nothing to do with the match itself, but I found it funny. Jack Swagger def. Adam Rose I fully expected this to be a quick throwaway match with Swagger disposing of Rose within minutes, but it was much more competitive than I thought it would be. The match wasn't half-bad, either, and I liked the finish with Swagger locking in the Patriot Lock out of nowhere on Rose. Once again, however, Woods was the star of the match on commentary by talking about poop the entire time. If you don't think that's Vince McMahon telling him (and Rose) to say that constantly, you're out of your mind. Roman Reigns puts Luke Harper's lights out. By Graham "GSM" Matthews WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins Interrupted Kane I wasn't sold on Kane playing mind games with Rollins at first, but I've grown to love it since Raw. Kane acts extremely enthusiastic when he's the Director of Operations and it's so much better than his draining promos from when he was a boring heel. I'm typically not a fan of long talking segments to open shows, but he had an enjoyable exchange with Rollins on the mic here that set the stage for the night's main event between Rollins and Dean Ambrose. Roman Reigns def. Luke Harper Harper and Reigns have always worked well against each other and this was no exception. They seemed to skip over first gear and go straight into the finishing sequence (meaning the match was rushed), but I enjoyed it. The ban on interference ensured a clean fight and the brawl between the two was fun while it lasted. Reigns was the obvious victor, but Harper looked good in defeat by putting forth a strong effort against Reigns. Ethan Carter III looks to finish off Rockstar Spud. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Dixie Carter Called Out Eric Young; Chris Melendez def. Young in a Lumberjack Match It's about time they started making a big deal about Bound for Glory in a few weeks. Yes, the build to the show should have started sooner, but better late than never, I guess. The announcement of the No. 1 Contender's match in the main event was well done and the transition into Young's match with Melendez was also nice. Young has morphed into the quintessential heel these past few months and this was great work from him on the mic. I loved his logic that he had an "iron clad" contract, and quite frankly, that was the only excuse he had from getting fired in storyline. I haven't been the biggest proponent of the Young-Melendez feud since it started, and even through this isn't saying much, this was their best bout to date and I'm glad it appears to have finally reached its end. My only question is, why wasn't this saved for Bound for Glory in two weeks? Knockouts Champion Gail Kim def. Jade They worked a well-wrestled match in the time they were allotted, but I imagine they could have an even better match if Jade meant more and wasn't cast as one of the whipping girls for Taryn Terrell. I was surprised by the amount of offense she got in against Kim, but I enjoyed the match, nevertheless. I liked the show of respect from Awesome Kong after the match and I'm excited to see them clash for the title at Bound for Glory. Hopefully they can play off their storied history on next week's go-home show and give it the special feel it deserves. William Regal welcomes Asuka to NXT. By Graham "GSM" Matthews Eva Marie def. Carmella Whose bright idea was it to put these two in the ring together again? It was bad enough they faced off a few weeks ago in Brooklyn and there was no need to hold a rematch. Yes, I commend Eva for her improvement, but it's hard for her not to improve considering how horrendous she was before. Putting her up against equally green workers aren't going to help her cause, either. Worse yet, the camera didn't catch Eva's foot on the rope the first time, and the finish came off terribly with Carmella falling to the outside and getting counted out. Not exactly the best way of kicking off the show. Tyler Breeze def. Bull Dempsey Breeze and Dempsey obviously have two very different in-ring styles, but they managed to produce a decent match with plenty of back-and-forth action. The Bullfit gimmick is quickly getting over, so at least the crowd is invested in both characters. Furthermore, I liked the finish that saw Breeze put his feet on the ropes to pick up the win. It puts heat on Breeze, protects Dempsey and keeps the feud alive, so it was well-done. |
