Finn Balor and Bayley def. Bobby Roode and NatalyaThe bit at the beginning with Balor and Roode exchanging jackets/robes was pretty funny, but everything else about this match felt average to me. That surprised me, just because you have four really good workers involved and you'd think it would have been more memorable than it was. On the bright side, Balor and Bayley keep rolling as a team, whereas Roode and Natalya have next to no chemistry together. The Miz and Asuka def. Jimmy Uso and NaomiAlthough they've gone undefeated for this long (including in Season 1), it looks like Miz and Asuka are finally starting to tease tension and aren't getting along as well as they used to. I like the seeds of dissension being planted because I assume that will lead to their eventual downfall. As for this match, it was slightly more enjoyable than the previous outing, but not by much. They managed to make it entertaining, but it was hardly must-see.

Big Show vs. Kofi Kingston Ended in a No ContestI was glad The New Day were more serious than usual during their promo, but there was no reason for them to come out doing their usual shtick by acting all happy and throwing pancakes out to the crowd and whatnot. Apparently they don't care too much about losing the SmackDown Tag Team Championship as much as they are confused by Big Show's actions last week like the rest of us. Anyway, Show decimated Kingston with ease and continued his assault on New Day afterward. It'll be New Day vs. The Bar once again for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship at WWE Crown Jewel. The Usos def. WWE Champion AJ Styles and Daniel BryanAs well-wrestled as this was (or at least what we saw of it because a majority of the match took place during the commercial break), it was completely unnecessary because it was essentially the same thing from last week, just with the roles reversed between Bryan and Styles. Yes, The Usos picked up another notable victory, but it won't mean anything if WWE doesn't allow them to capitalize on it. Bryan and Styles are teasing tension going into Crown Jewel, but this feud doesn't feel as important as it should.
Zack Ryder def. Jinder MahalIt's been a while since Mahal last appeared on Main Event. In fact, it might have been before he became WWE Champion, which goes to show how far he's fallen since then. However, I'm not complaining because he's right where he belongs on the card. Also, when did the other Singh Brother return? Anyway, this was a decent enough match that felt fairly formulaic, though the finish was the only memorable thing about it. Yes, Ryder actually pinned Mahal clean. Think about that for a second. Bobby Roode and Chad Gable def. The RevivalI found it weird that Roode and Gable were on Raw teasing tension for weeks on end only to be taken off the show all together recently. I'm still waiting for Roode to turn on Gable, and it looks like that's still the endgame eventually based off what we saw here. This was a very well-wrestled match that had a nice pace, but it was sad to see The Revival lose to a makeshift tandem.
Roman Reigns Relinquished the Universal ChampionshipWow. I really do not know what else to say. Reigns announcing he has leukemia came completely out of nowhere. He mentioned that it has been in remission for over 11 years and now it's back. There's no telling how long he'll be out for, but here's wishing him a speedy recovery. The crowd was as classy as could be. Obviously, no one else knew about this announcement considering the very real reactions from the commentators afterward. Can we all just agree that cancer sucks? Finn Balor def. Bobby LashleyDon't get me wrong, Lashley as a heel is a great move, but he needs to show some more personality and not leave it all up to Lio Rush (who should not be talking as much as he is during Lashley's matches). At any rate, this was a solid match, but I'm sure these two could do better with more time, and based off the fluky finish, the feud will continue. Hopefully Lashley bounces back by beating the living hell out of Balor and getting that aggressive edge back he used to have in IMPACT.
Rey Mysterio and Jeff Hardy def. Andrade "Cien" Almas and Randy OrtonIf I'm not mistaken, this might have marked Mysterio's first WWE house show since 2014, and if so, that's pretty damn cool. Mysterio and Hardy are a dream team straight out of 2009 and are huge fan favorites, so it was smart to have this open the show. In fact, I would argue Hardy received the bigger ovation of the two, but they were both beloved, nonetheless. This was a very fun match that gave us a sneak peak of an inevitable Mysterio vs. Almas feud as well as Mysterio vs. Orton (who have history with each other from years ago). Asuka and Carmella def. The IIconicsTo be completely honest, I couldn't have cared less about this contest, and I can't imagine the rest of the crowd felt much differently. The IIconics came out cutting a promo bashing Hartford and it was hard to hear them because their mics were not the greatest. Plus, their voices can be incredibly obnoxious at times, and not in the good kind of heel-heat way. At any rate, it was strange seeing Asuka and Carmella team up following their feud from the summer, but I guess we're supposed to forget about that because Carmella's a babyface all of a sudden. This was whatever, and I hated seeing Asuka relegated to such a throwaway match.
