Impact World Champion Moose and Eddie Edwards Brawled; Josh Alexander and Minoru Suzuki BrawledWhat a wild opening segment. Before Moose could cut his first promo as Impact World Champion, he was interrupted by Edwards, who he has a history with and was feuding with again heading into Bound for Glory. Moose has improved his mic work a lot over the years as a heel, so I liked the promo. I can see some people taking issue with the not-so-subtle references to WWE and AEW stars, but it wasn't like he was taking any real shots at them. That brought out Alexander, who Moose took the title from, but before they could go at it, Suzuki made his IMPACT debut and brawled with Alexander. I appreciated how much stuff this segment set up for future episodes and beyond.

Mark Coffey def. Rohan RajaGallus already feel overexposed as it is, so seeing Mark Coffey in action against Rohan Raja of all people wasn't terribly exciting to me. Don't get me wrong, the match was perfectly fine for what it was, but I can't say I care about Gallus feuding with the duo of Raja and Teoman. Following Coffey's win, he and Wolfgang were immediately ambushed by Raja and Teoman, likely setting the stage for an upcoming tag team matchup.
Veer def. Jaxson RykerThis had the potential to be one of the worst matches all year. Thankfully, they avoided disaster. That's not to say it was good, but it was passable. I may be in the minority who actually likes Veer. With more time and seasoning, he could be better, but Ryker is just a lost cause at this point. Veer received the most generic "coming soon" vignette I've seen on Monday's Raw, so unless WWE gives him some serious character development (or taps into his famous MLB background), I don't see him escaping Main Event duty.
CM Punk def. Bobby FishKicking off any show with CM Punk is never a bad thing. As he has been everywhere he's been since signing with AEW, he was mega over in Boston. Fish was a perfectly capable opponent for him and he was on offense much more than I thought he would be. I wouldn't put this on the same level of other matches Punk has had so far in AEW, but this was technically sound and solid. It was unfortunately marred by a bizarre finish. It looked like from where I was sitting that Fish kicked out of the GTS at two (why, I don't know), but the referee counted three, anyway. Maybe they'll go back to it, but the crowd was confused.
