"Filthy" Tom Lawlor Attacked Paul Walter Hauser on Laurent Sessions Hosted by Mister Saint Laurent Laurent always plays his role well, but MLW's overreliance on him, Dario Cueto and Salina de la Renta is one of the promotion's biggest drawbacks these days. In defense of this specific segment, however, it featured Hauser and he's obviously a notable name, so this was fine. I didn't expect Hauser to take a beating from Lawlor, so it looks like Hauser will be sticking around for another match. Bobby Fish def. Adam PriestMLW is a good landing spot for Fish in the current wrestling landscape. His style allows him to fit right in and he can have quality matches with the roster MLW has right now. This wasn't an Opera Cup match but rather a quick showcase for Fish before his first-round match on MLW's next event. His opponent was announced as KENTA, so that pretty much confirms Fish isn't getting out of the first round. Davey Boy Smith def. Timothy Thatcher in an Opera Cup First-Round MachSimilar to Fish, these guys are also right at home in MLW. I would've liked to see Thatcher go deeper in the tournament, but it made more sense for Smith to advance seeing as how he's won the Opera Cup twice before (including last year). This was a really well-wrestled match from these two and I was glad they received an ample amount of time. This year's Opera Cup could be great if we get more matches like this in the rest of the tourney. MLW National Openweight Champion Bad Dude Tito def. Jake CristCrist challenged for the MLW National Openweight Championship back at The Burning Crush in February where he won by disqualification. It was logical for him to get another crack at the title, but why so many months later? The fact this match was so random didn't make it very interesting, but it was well worked while it lasted. It doesn't help that there hasn't been much of a reason to care about either guy as of late. Yes, Tito is a champion, but what more do we really know about him? AKIRA def. Ikuro Kwon in an Opera Cup First-Round MatchKwon is back in MLW after being gone for a few years. You'd think he would win in the first round so he could be established as someone to take seriously, but apparently not. That said, AKIRA needs wins after losing so many matches earlier this year, so I understand the need to have him advance (at least to the next round). This was on the shorter side, but it was a nice match. MLW World Middleweight Champion Mistico def. Star Jr.Amazingly, Mistico comes off like one of MLW's biggest stars, and he isn't even a full-time MLW guy. Yes, he's appeared in MLW quite a bit this year, but he's primarily a CMLL wrestler at the end of the day. He's had a fun run as Middleweight champ with some entertaining matches and this was no exception. Star Jr. was impressive in his own right and they made the most of the time they had. Strong stuff here. Miyu Yamashita def. Dani Jordyn and Jazzy Yang in a Three-Way MatchYang is the real-life daughter of Jimmy Yang (f.k.a. WWE's Jimmy Wang Yang), who recently took part in Battle Riot. For a three-way, this was extremely brief, so we didn't get to see much of what she can do, but she and Jordyn (whose work I enjoyed on AEW Dark a few years ago) held this own. This felt like a glorified squash for Yamashita. Perhaps she'll get a one-on-one opportunity for the MLW World Women's Featherweight Championship at some point? Mads Krule Krugger def. 1 Called Manders in a Bull Rope MatchKrugger has been getting an aggressive push since returning to MLW and this allowed him to continue his domination. For a main event, it was a tad underwhelming and the finish felt abrupt, but it was what it needed to be as they made effective use of the stipulation. Chaos closed the show with Contra Unit attacking Second Gear Crew. More faction warfare. Oh joy. Overall ShowNotable wrestling promoter Gary Juster was honored with a lifetime achievement award right before the main event, which was pretty cool. Additionally, it was revealed at the very end of the event that Salina is pregnant. I assume that's part of her storyline with Duran, and if so, what a dumb development. Their nonsense is easily the worst part of these shows (and that's coming from a longtime fan of Duran from Lucha Underground). The rest of the show held up and was actually one of MLW's better events in recent months. It felt like more happened than usual, specifically with the Opera Cup kicking off.
