Alex Kane Confronted Eric BischoffI honestly don't mind Bischoff as much as most these days (especially if he's used in small and effective doses), but he was all over that One-Shot event in December and it was terrible. I assume he brought up the Ted Turner Lifetime Achievement Award thing to get heat, but the last thing MLW needs is another heel authority figure. Cesar Duran is better in that role at this point and even he hasn't been utilized well in a while. At the very least, his ultimatum for Kane was a fine hook for the main event. Templario and Esfinge def. MLW World Middleweight Champion Mistico and Mascara DoradaYou'd think this was a four-way with how everyone fended for themselves and how the action was all over the place, but that's just lucha libre rules. Don't get me wrong, this was definitely an enjoyable outing, even if it was difficult to follow at certain points. Templario pinning Mistico was certainly a surprise. That sets him up for an opportunity at the MLW World Middleweight Championship at Battle Riot VII in April. Mistico wanted to do the match immediately, but Duran refused. Tara Zepp Attacked MLW World Women's Featherweight Champion Delmi ExoExo was being interviewed by Joe Dombrowski at ringside when she was almost immediately attacked by Zepp. Although I'm not familiar with Zepp at all, she certainly made an impact by taking out Exo and establishing herself as Exo's first challenger. This angle was both brief and effective, and while it wasn't officially confirmed, I assume we'll get the match between them at Battle Riot. KENTA def. Kevin KnightKnight continues to be very impressive with every match he has in MLW and this was no exception. KENTA's obviously experienced and thus was the perfect opponent for him here. They had a very good match and I appreciated that Knight was made to look credible in defeat. KENTA made it clear in his post-match promo that he has his sights set on the MLW World Heavyweight Championship. Paul London def. Brett Ryan Gosselin in a Honey Trap MatchI applaud MLW for always trying different things, but some of these stipulations are just stupid. This gave me Mimosa Mayhem vibes from AEW All Out years ago with the only difference being that the loser had to fall into the "honey trap" afterward. The match was perfectly fine and I guess Gosselin got his comeuppance out of it, but I could do without this sort of stuff, personally. At least it was kept on the shorter side. Donovan Dijak def. "Filthy" Tom LawlorThis was billed as a grudge match. They've been at odds for a bit and I'm glad they had the competitive contest they were capable of. I say that because Lawlor has largely been portrayed as a goof in his alliance with Matt Riddle, but thankfully, he was in serious mode here. This was an entertaining encounter and Dijak winning was the right call. Janai Kai def. Mila MooreI believe this marked Kai's first match (or even appearance) in MLW since losing the MLW World Women's Featherweight Championship to Exo last month. She came across like a total killer by destroying Moore within minutes. The rest of Contra Unit joined her in the ring afterward and Mads Krule Krugger teased cashing in his guaranteed MLW World Heavyweight Championship shot, or at least that's what I think he said because it was hard to hear him. MLW World Heavyweight Champion Matt Riddle def. Alex Kane and MLW World Tag Team Champion Satoshi Kojima in a Three-Way MatchThe match remained a three-way, so that must mean Kane gave up the chance to fight Bischoff so he could challenge for the championship. I'm happy he did because this was a blast of a bout. I've ragged on Kojima being in the top title picture for the past year, but he held his own here and I especially liked any interaction Riddle and Kane had. That running Spear from Kane to Riddle was wild. This didn't last long at all, but what we got was great. Overall ShowMLW's events have been below-average and not worth seeking out more often than not for the last year or so, but this was one of the best they've produced in recent memory. The wrestling was strong on the whole, they kept the crap to a minimum and there was plenty of hype for Battle Riot coming up in April, including the announcement that Riddle will defend his title in the Battle Riot match itself. MLW needs to stick with delivering shows of this caliber and they'll be on the right track.
