Women's World Champion IYO SKY and Rhea Ripley Made Their Match Official for EvolutionI thought we'd get this rematch soon after WrestleMania 41 when it was being teased, but they moved away from it during Money in the Bank season. I'm actually glad we're getting it at Evolution and that it's not being saved for SummerSlam because I want SKY vs. Asuka to have a bigger buildup (assuming SKY retains at Evolution, which isn't likely). This was a solid segment to set it up. The Judgment Day (Finn Balor and JD McDonagh) def. The New Day to Win the World Tag Team ChampionshipDespite the heel vs. heel dynamic, the crowd was shockingly hot for this match. This was very good and I wasn't expecting the title change. New Day did next to nothing as champs, so I can't say I'm all that disappointed, but I am still of the belief that WWE's booking of the Raw tag team division has been dreadful for at least a year now. Everyone in Judgment Day now holds gold, so there's that. Rusev def. SheamusIt's amazing to think that these two only ever had two televised singles matches when Rusev was last in WWE, both being over the United States Championship in late 2014. It's a shame the crowd was as quiet as they were for this, but I appreciated that they were given as much time as they were to have a hard-hitting affair. Rusev winning was the right call to keep the feud alive. CM Punk Attacked Seth Rollins Confronted World Heavyweight Champion GuntherGunther was cutting another quality promo about Goldberg when he was interrupted by Rollins. The funny thing is that we've seen them interact quite a bit over the last year and a half, but they have yet to have a singles match against each other (not counting that random Raw matchup from November 2019). Punk attempting to get revenge on Rollins and fending him off was logical and I like the seeds planted for Punk vs. Gunther. I'd say that's the SummerSlam match, but it looks like Rollins vs. Punk is the plan for SummerSlam with LA Knight getting Rollins at Saturday Night's Main Event. Bayley vs. Lyra Valkyria in a Women's Intercontinental Championship No. 1 Contender's Match Ended in a DrawThe babyface vs. babyface dynamic did this match no favors. It was as well-wrestled as you'd expect given the talent involved, but the crowd sat on their hands for pretty much all of it, probably because they were waiting for Becky Lynch to get involved and cause the contest to be thrown out. Instead, Bayley and Valkyria pinned each other simultaneously, leading to the inevitable Triple Threat announcement for Evolution. Lynch not showing up at all was surprising, but at least she didn't interfere and look like an idiot by getting the Triple Threat match made. Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed def. Sami Zayn and PentaKarrion Kross attacked Zayn backstage earlier in the evening, so that made it obvious he was eating the pin here. Nonetheless, this was a really fun main event with entertaining action. Thankfully, Breakker and Reed won decisively and we didn't get an unnecessary non-finish. With Jey Uso saving Zayn and Penta post-match, my guess is that we're going to get another new addition to Rollins' crew sooner rather than later so the babyfaces don't outnumber the heels. Overall ShowIf it felt like Raw had less content than usual this week, that was presumably by design since WWE had to tape Friday's SmackDown afterward as well. The crowd was quieter at certain points than I would've liked, but it was a thumbs-up episode regardless with effective hype for both Saturday Night's Main Event and Evolution. I hate how WWE has rushed the build for Evolution and it's resulted in a rather lazy card, but similar to the inaugural installment, I'm sure it will end up being a strong show in spite of that.
