Jey Uso def. Grayson WallerThis wasn't the exactly the hottest opener WWE could've gone with, but Uso is super over and hasn't made an entrance through the crowd in a few weeks, so it did start the show on a high note. This was a fairly ordinary outing with an obvious outcome. I like Waller, but he and Austin Theory have been such afterthoughts for so long now. Gunther choked out Uso afterward to get some revenge, but I maintain that their feud needs at least another layer or two before WrestleMania 41. AJ Styles Saved Andrew Schulz from Logan PaulTo be perfectly honest, I have no idea who Schulz is, but apparently he's a comedian with a Netflix special. We couldn't have gotten Macaulay Culkin in there instead? To Schulz's credit, he played his role well, as did Styles and Paul (who was beyond hated by this crowd). This served as simple setup for a 'Mania match between Styles and Paul. Plans must have changed because this was originally advertised as Styles calling out Paul, and Paul ultimately showed up before Styles did. The New Day def. The LWO (Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee) in a Tornado Tag Team MatchI believe Mysterio and Lee had a Tornado tag team match with The Creed Brothers late last year, so they excel in this environment. This was a fun bout with good action before the "masked luchador" got involved and cost The LWO the win. Despite Chad Gable denying it later on and showing someone else in the mask, it was clearly him. Now I'm just wondering what this means for all of them as far as the multi-man match we get at WrestleMania. Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes Addressed John CenaThis was along the same lines as the promo Rhodes cut on Friday's SmackDown. It wasn't nearly as strong, but it was effective, nonetheless. I'm not even sure why it was necessary since we heard Rhodes speak on SmackDown and he'll be speaking on SmackDown again this week, but I guess they wanted to get him on the show in Madison Square Garden. It was announced that both he and Cena will be "under the same roof" for next week's Raw. WWE Women's Tag Team Champion Raquel Rodriguez def. Bayley in a Women's Intercontinental Championship No. 1 Contender's MatchYes, one-half of the newly-crowned women's tag champs is chasing singles gold, so if you thought the tag titles were going to mean something on Rodriguez and Liv Morgan, think again. I will say, though: I'm glad the Women's Intercontinental picture is getting a boost of star power, but I use that term lightly when it comes to Rodriguez. There was nothing technically wrong with this match, but the crowd did not care. Not even about Bayley, which was sad. Roxanne Perez not interfering and costing Bayley the victory was what really surprised me. Women's World Champion IYO SKY Attacked Rhea Ripley and Bianca BelairIf you needed confirmation that we're getting a Triple Threat with these three at WrestleMania, there you go. SKY came across well in her interview with Michael Cole, whereas Belair and especially Ripley sounded whiny. Sky slapping both of them after they disrespected her was the right call. I wouldn't call this riveting television, but it accomplished what it needed to. Seth "Freakin" Rollins def. CM Punk in a Steel Cage MatchI won't compare this to the Steel Cage match we just got at AEW Revolution on Sunday night because they weren't remotely the same, but they were both excellent in their own right. Punk and Rollins have done an amazing job of making it feel like they truly hate each other (and maybe they do, who knows). I could've done without the constant kicking out of finishers, but otherwise, this was stellar stuff. Roman Reigns' return was expected, but his attacks on Rollins and Punk (for embracing Paul Heyman in the ring) will lead to the Triple Threat match at 'Mania that we've heard so much about in recent months. Overall ShowI had slightly higher expectations for this episode given what was advertised and the fact it emanated from Madison Square Garden, but on the whole, I enjoyed it and everything seemed to serve a purpose. The WrestleMania card is becoming clearer, though I'm not too confident about some of the stuff in the midcard for the men and women. The must-see main event and its immediate aftermath saved this show from being average.
