NWA Powerrr Review - December 10, 2024

Alex Misery vs. Lev Ended in a No Contest

I appreciate that Lev got some interview time on last week's episode to establish who he is and why this match was happening. Powerrr definitely does that with some matches, but more of that is needed. This was fun while it lasted before being interrupted by Gaagz the Gymp and Joe Ocasio, who brought a chair with him and attacked everybody (including Gaagz). The commentators referenced that Ocasio has history with Misery and Lev, but I have no recollection of that at all. Just get rid of Gaagz entirely, please.

Colby Corino and Bryan Idol def. The Southern Six (Kerry Morton and "Thrillbilly" Silas Mason)

Corino and Morton are obviously no strangers to one another given the many matches they had over the NWA Junior Heavyweight Championship, not to mention Corino's recent rivalry with Southern Six. They worked well together while Mason and Idol had solid showings as well, which made for a good match. Corino lost to Southern Six when he teamed with Kyle Davis, so it was logical for him to get a measure of revenge here.

Carson Bartholomew Drake def. Max the Impaler in a Hell Awaits Match to Win the NWA Television Championship

This was basically a No Disqualification match. Their original encounter several weeks back was pretty lame, but this was a vast improvement as they made the most of the stipulation. The NWA doesn't tend to have too many hardcore matches, so when they do happen, they feel more meaningful. I thought this would be another easy win for Max, so I was surprised when Drake scored the upset win. I was even more surprised when Max turned on Father James Mitchell afterward. The commentators acted as if they had been teasing tension for months, so perhaps I haven't been paying enough attention.

Overall Show

The Samhain shows are off to a strong start. I was disappointed by the non-finish in the opener, but I liked it for what it was. The tag team match was well wrestled and the main event was an enjoyable brawl. Plus, the unexpected title change was newsworthy, so this was a thumbs-up episode on the whole. Hopefully the rest of the Samhain tapings can keep the momentum going.
