NWA Powerrr Review - February 18, 2025

NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion Alex Taylor def. Joe Ocasio

Ocasio has been on a bunch of NWA shows over the last year or two, but I can't recall a single promo I've heard him cut or an instance where something significant has been done with him. My point is, it would've been nice to hear from him beforehand so he felt like more of a threat to the title. Regardless, this was a well-wrestled opener and another good title defense from Taylor.

NWA Television Champion Carson Bartholomew Drake and The Slime Ballz def. The Country Joes (Joe Cazana and NWA United States Tag Team Champions The Country Gentlemen)

For whatever reason, Country Joes weren't announced by that name as that have been in the past, but I'll use that team name here for the sake of consistency. I appreciate that this bout had some buildup behind it, but as I've said before, I don't know who the crowd was supposed to cheer for since all six of these guys are heels to my knowledge. Despite that, this was a solid six-man tag team match and Drake picking up the win for his team was the right call.

"Thrillbilly" Silas Mason def. Bryan Idol in a Falls Count Anywhere Match by Referee Stoppage

I was looking forward to this match because of the talent involved and it got off to a strong start, but that chair shot Mason hit Idol with as Idol leaped to the outside of the ring looked brutal. I assume the match had to be stopped because Idol was legitimately hurt as it felt like they were stalling for time afterward. Here's hoping Idol is okay. Mason's impromptu promo about wanting a shot at the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship was great.

Overall Show

This was another thumbs-up edition of Powerrr. It's a shame the main event had to be cut short, but they made the most of an unfortunate circumstance. I enjoyed the other two matches for what they were, which made for a quality show on the whole. Powerrr feels far more focused whenever it features content from the bigger events than they do (such as Looks That Kill) as opposed to the non-special event episodes that lack direction and substance.
