NWA Powerrr Review - June 10, 2025

EC3 and Pretty Boy Smooth def. Burchill and Joe Ocasio

This was yet another preview of the upcoming Crockett Cup. EC3 and Smooth have been established as allies and it was logical for them to go over, but I don't recall Burchill and Ocasio teaming before. Regardless, this was a solid opener. Unfortunately, last month's Crockett Cup event won't be airing on Powerrr anytime soon, so I assume we'll be getting more matches like this in the coming weeks.

Spencer Slade def. Hunter Drake

I can't think of a single win Drake has picked up on his own (or at all) in the NWA, so the outcome to this felt like a foregone conclusion from the get-go. Technically, there was nothing wrong with the match, but it didn't seem to serve much of a purpose other than giving Slade a victory. I'd like to see Slade continue to build momentum and have this amount to something, but I'm not expecting it.

Colby Corino def. Frank in the Finals of the Dane Memorial Heavyweight Tournament to Become the No. 1 Contender to the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship

It's been so many weeks since we got any progression in the Dane Memorial Heavyweight Tournament that I honestly forgot all about it, but I'm glad it's finally been resolved with the right winner. Frank becoming number one contender would have been an awful choice, yet I wouldn't have put it past the NWA to do it. Corino is great and should have a quality title match with Thom Latimer. This was a well-worked main event with Corino excelling in the underdog role.

Overall Show

The first two matches weren't anything out of the ordinary, but the main event was significant in that we now know who's next to challenge Latimer for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship. I don't know when that's taking place, but I doubt it's imminent. Maybe we can get some build in the meantime and move away from Latimer feuding with Aron Stevens? The biggest NWA news this week is that Powerrr will begin airing on The Roku Channel next month, so we'll see how that shakes out (airing on The CW was obviously short-lived).
