Knox and Murdoch def. Looks That Kill in a Crockett Cup Quarterfinal Match

Having Natalia Markova take part in a competitive match with two guys like Trevor Murdoch and Mike Knox was a bit of a risk, but they ended up treading lightly and she had a very good showing. Her role was limited so it was believable, but she scored enough offense so she wasn't an afterthought. It was a well-worked match and Knox and Murdoch, who won last year's Crockett Cup, were the correct choice to advance.

NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion Joe Alonzo def. Jack Cartwheel

Alex Taylor was originally scheduled to challenge for the NWA Junior Heavyweight Championship on this show, but he had to replace Silas Mason for last week's Crockett Cup quarterfinal match due to Mason not being cleared to compete and thus Taylor was replaced here. I'm not sure why Taylor couldn't pull double duty, but I'm not complaining as this was a very fun match between him and Alonzo. Cartwheel's shtick is always my cup of tea, but he and Alonzo clicked here and it was a bigger win for Alonzo than if he just beat Taylor.

NWA World Tag Team Champions Blunt Force Trauma def. The Miserably Faithful (Judais and Unified NWA Television Champion Max the Impaler) in a Crockett Cup Quarterfinal Match (Non-Title)

I didn't have high hopes for this match considering neither team is overly exciting, but it wasn't as abysmal as expected. Was it worthy of the main event slot? Not at all, but it was surprisingly passable. Unlike with Markova in the opener, there was nothing out of the ordinary about Max taking it to Blunt Force Trauma because of how they've been booked and portrayed. The tag champs were never going to lose in the quarterfinals, but the semifinals could be a different story.

Overall Show

This was the continuation of the Crockett Cup event (taped sometime last month) and it was another straightforward show like last week with three meaningful matches. The two tag team matches were decent and closed out the quarterfinals of the tourney, while Alonzo vs. Cartwheel was the best bout of the bunch. All in all, it was a thumbs-up episode and I hope the rest of the Crockett Cup event will be more of the same.
