NWA Powerrr Review - October 15, 2024

Kyle Davis Interviewed Jazz and Pat Kenney

Say what you will about the NWA's descent in the last few years (and there's a lot you can say), but to the company's credit, they always do an excellent job of honoring legends and giving them their moment. That was once again the case here with Jazz and Kenney being spotlighted in the 2300 Arena, better known as the ECW Arena (though they technically can't refer to it as that). This was short and sweet.

Jack Cartwheel def. Alex Misery in an NWA Junior Heavyweight Championship No. 1 Contender's Match

Joe Alonzo's still the NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion, right? He held the title going into NWA 76 but wasn't under contract to the company anymore even at that point, so I guess we'll find out once Cartwheel gets his title shot. At any rate, this was a very fun match between two talented performers that are perfect for the NWA's Junior Heavyweight division. I'm looking forward to Cartwheel vs. Alonzo, assuming it happens.

Natalia Markova Won the Burke Invitational Gauntlet Match For an NWA World Women's Championship Opportunity

There was a number of women I wasn't familiar with in the match, and others who I wasn't expecting a la Haley J from OVW and Santana Garrett, a former NWA World Women's Champion in her own right. This played out like your average Gauntlet matchup and most of the eliminations were rapid-fire, but the closing moments were well done and Markova putting Tiffany Nieves through the table off the top rope made for a hot finish. Markova has never won when it's mattered most when championships are on the line, so will her next opportunity at the NWA World Women's title be any different?

Overall Show

I appreciated the simple format for this week's show. The inclusion of the legends at the beginning was cool and the two matches had stakes. Cartwheel vs. Misery was obviously the better bout of the two, but the main event was decent and I enjoyed the final stretch. All in all, this was a thumbs-up episode. It's worth noting that the Samhain taping is coming up next weekend, but it's unknown when content from that event will air as part of Powerrr.
