ROH World Champion Mark Briscoe def. Johnny TVJohnny TV was shown asking Paul Wight for an ROH World Championship shot backstage at the start of the show. Apparently it's that easy. Although this match came of nowhere and Johnny has done very little to earn an opportunity at the title, Briscoe rarely appears on ROH TV these days, so I'll take an ROH World Championship defense whenever we can get one. It was sad when Briscoe kicked out of Johnny's finisher and the crowd barely reacted. They had a quality contest, but it didn't have big fight feel whatsoever even though the top title was on the line. Lio Rush def. Blake ChristianYou had to know we'd get a fast-paced spot-fest between these two and this was exactly that. Christian bores me as a character, but there's no denying he's talented in the ring. He and Rush worked as well together as you'd expect. Post-match, Rush went for a handshake that Christian denied, so it looks like Christian is going heel. It was announced later on that Tony Nese will be Rush's next opponent. Abadon Confronted ROH Women's World Champion AthenaAthena scolded Billie Starkz in the ring while Starkz did sit-ups. I guess winning last week's tag team main event wasn't enough to make up for losing the ROH Women's World Television Championship? They really need to get to the next step of their storyline. In the meantime, Abadon appears to be Athena's next ROH Women's World Championship challenger. She has zero momentum at the moment, but whatever. It's better than Athena waiting until the next pay-per-view to defend her title. Katsuyori Shibata def. Ariya DaivariI know Premier Athletes get mic time every time they come out because it's an attempt to garner heat (and it usually works), but they say the same stuff every time, so if I'm not watching the show live, I'll skip over their entrance. Shibata is back to pulling Ring of Honor duty and this was designed to be a straightforward showcase for him. It gave him a win and that's why it existed. Harley Cameron def. Viva VanThe Outcasts are currently feuding with Nyla Rose on Rampage, and part of me is shocked it isn't happening on ROH TV considering that's where Cameron and Rose have a majority of their matches, anyway. I imagine Saraya doesn't want to pull ROH duty. On the bright side, ROH is the perfect place for Cameron to hone her skills. This was a little lengthy for my liking, but it accomplished what it needed to. Serpentico def. Griff Garrison in a Mask Apuestas MatchWe've seen these two in so many matches against each other as part of Garrison and Cole Karter's feud with Spanish Announce Project that I had zero interest in this match when it was announced earlier in the episode, but at least they added the stipulation that Serpentico's mask was on the line. The bout benefited from having something at stake and the pre-match brawl made the match feel more personal, too. In short, this exceeded my expectations. Anthony Henry and BEEF def. Vinnie Massaro and Dante LeonI don't know who this BEEF dude is, but I assume he's going to be Henry's new partner until JD Drake returns from his injury. Although they won, Henry didn't seem sold afterward, so they'll need a few more wins before they're on the same page. The match was whatever, but it told the aforementioned story. Am I invested? Not really, but I give them credit for using Henry while Drake is out. ROH Pure Champion Lee Moriarty def. Action Andretti in an ROH Pure Championship Proving Ground MatchMoriarty is a terrific fit as ROH Pure Champion because of his style and what he's capable of. This is an excellent spot for him to be in. He and Andretti had a well-worked match with Andretti taking Moriarty to the limit before falling short. It's worth noting that Moriarty went at it alone here, so it's possible we'll soon see some jealousy from the other members of Shane Taylor Promotions. ROH World Television Champion Atlantis Jr. def. Robbie EaglesI was hoping Eagles' win last week would amount to anything and I'm happy it did. A bit more build would've been nice, but perhaps he won't be sticking around and they wanted to get this out of the way. He and Atlantis had an enjoyable outing together. Like I mentioned last week, I haven't seen much of Eagles in action, but he's been impressive from what I've seen, so I'd be down for him having more matches in ROH. ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions Dustin Rhodes and The Von Erichs def. Cage of Agony (Brian Cage and The Gates of Agony) by DisqualificationRhodes and The Von Erichs just won the titles almost three weeks ago and they've already had two title defenses. I appreciate that they're fighting champions, but you don't want them to quickly run through the few trios ROH has. They were having a good main event up until the interference from Undisputed Kingdom and The Dark Order. I know both groups have issues with the champs, but even the commentators acknowledged how it didn't make sense. Why would they be working together? And why weren't Cage of Agony angry that they cost them the win? Overall ShowTwo hours?! ROH TV is officially back to being needlessly long and it's a shame because the show was significantly stronger when it was only around an hour. That said, this episode had three title matches and a few segments that furthered storylines, so it wasn't a throwaway show by any means. Granted, there was some stuff that I could've done without, but on the whole, it continued the streak of solid shows from ROH.
