Ring of Honor Review - August 21, 2025

CMLL World Trios Champions El Sky (Mistico, Mascara Dorada and Neon) def. Los Depredadores (Volador Jr., Magnus and Rugido)

We've gotten so many random six-man tag team matches with the CMLL guys on ROH TV this year that I'm amazed we got one with actual stakes for a change with the CMLL World Trios Championship being defended. Personally, I couldn't have cared less about the outcome (and I wasn't expecting a title change, anyway), but it was a very fun match for as long as it lasted.

Blake Christian def. BEEF

BEEF was a regular on ROH TV last year, teaming with The Workhorsemen (maybe it was just Anthony Henry while JD Drake was out injured, but I don't recall exactly). He disappeared until recently and I didn't even notice he was gone. He works well as an enhancement guy, so this was fine as a straightforward squash for Christian. Why not give him and Lee Johnson more tag team wins if they're supposed to be setting their sights on the ROH World Tag Team Championship?

The Beast Mortos def. AR Fox

Unsurprisingly, this was a rematch from last summer I believe. The end result wasn't any different this time around. This felt like a match you'd see on Collision since both guys are on AEW TV fairly often these days, so the "star power" helped. Otherwise, this was pretty much what you'd expect with Mortos dominating a majority of the match before picking up the victory.

Sons of Texas (ROH World Tag Team Champion Sammy Guevara and ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions The Von Erichs) def. Adam Priest and The Workhorsemen

With Dustin Rhodes out injured indefinitely, Guevara stepping up for him as one-third of the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions makes the most sense. They essentially established that in a backstage segment afterward, but I don't know if Guevara will officially be recognized as one-third of the champs or just defending the belts on his behalf (I'd take the belts off them regardless since they've barely defended them in the past year). Priest and The Workhorsemen just joined forces a week ago, so it's odd they've already lost their first match together, but maybe that alliance was always designed to be short-lived.

Trish Adora def. Janai Kai

Kai notably wrestled for MLW for at least a year or so and was a dominant MLW World Women's Featherweight Champion before leaving earlier this year. This was more competitive than I thought, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Adora can keep racking up wins, but they're not going to mean anything if they don't amount to anything, such as a title shot (I've given up on the announced ROH Women's Pure Championship).

Hechicero def. Jay Lethal

As I've said before, Lethal has been so phased down over the last little while that beating him nowadays means virtually nothing (didn't he lose to Blake Christian on the Supercard of Honor Zero Hour pre-show?), but at least he's a bigger name for Hechicero to beat before he challenges Bandido for the ROH World Championship at Death Before Dishonor. This was the correct choice to serve as the main event since it was an enjoyable outing.

Overall Show

I still think any edition of ROH TV over an hour is too long, but this was serviceable stuff, especially as we head toward Death Before Dishonor next Friday night. They've confirmed a handful of matches for the card and waiting until the last minute per usual (though I'm sure more matches will be added right beforehand or the day of). I don't have lofty expectations for ROH TV these days, but this episode was what it needed to be.
