ROH Women's World Champion Athena def. Harley CameronI'm glad Cameron pinning Athena recently in the AEW Women's World Tag Team Championship Tournament actually led to something. I'm also glad this match happened on ROH TV and wasn't saved for Final Battle. They had a really good outing with Cameron fighting from underneath and coming close to winning down the stretch, but you had to know the ROH Women's World Championship wasn't changing hands for the first time in three years in the opener of ROH TV. Billie Starkz def. Katie Arquette in a Pure Rules MatchSimply not, this women's Pure division is not interesting (and nothing against the women because the men's Pure division has never been all that interesting to me, either). Plus, the ROH Women's Pure Championship Tournament has been dragging on for so long that I always forget who's advanced and who hasn't. They're teasing tension between Starkz and Athena for the millionth time and it's just impossible to care about this point. This was merely a match that existed and nothing more. Deonna Purrazzo def. Viva Van in a Pure Rules MatchI'm convinced Van has lost to everyone involved in the ROH Women's Pure Championship Tournament at least once. We've seen so many of these "warm-up" matches in recent months that they all practically blend together. To Van's credit, she's been impressive in each of these outings, but there was no questioning who was winning here. To answer my own question from the previous paragraph, I'm assuming Purrazzo and Starkz's altercation beforehand and afterward means they're meeting in the next round of the tourney. Satnam Singh def. JP GraysonYou can copy and paste what I've written about any other squash Singh has had on ROH TV this year and I'm sure the same would apply. The best thing I can say about them is that they're quick and don't overstay their welcome. I just don't know what purpose these matches are supposed to serve. It's not like they're leading to anything, but it would be nice if they did because they're a waste of time otherwise. QT Marshall def. Jacked JamesonMarshall had Big Boom! A.J. in his corner, which was a surprise as I assumed A.J. wouldn't appear in person until Full Gear when he and Marshall take on RPG Vice on the Tailgate Brawl pre-show. Marshall vs. Jameson was a pretty basic bout, but it was what it needed to be. The focus was more so on RPG Vice's post-match assault on Marshall and A.J. That was smart since RPG Vice is virtually guaranteed to lose come Saturday. Persephone def. Valentina RossiRossi is one-half of the NWA World Women's Tag Team Champions at the moment, but I don't believe that was acknowledged (and I'm not shocked that it wasn't). I haven't seen too many of Persephone's matches, but she absolutely gives off the vibes of a star, much like Stephanie Vaquer did when she wrestled at Forbidden Door last year. Once she's free and clear of her CMLL contract, AEW better lock her down to a deal before WWE inevitably does. At any rate, this was a solid showcase for Persephone before she faces Athena for the ROH Women's World Championship at Final Battle, and Diamante attacking her afterward may set up a match between them before then. Top Flight def. ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions The InfantryIt's refreshing to get an actual feud over the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship for a change, even if the booking has been paint-by-numbers stuff so far. This was a quality contest between two talented teams, and apparently Top Flight's victory was enough to earn them a shot at the six-man tag titles at Final Battle with that being officially announced on social media after the show. Overall ShowFinal Battle will be your usual thrown-together card, but to the company's credit, they're making more of an effort to build up some of the matches, including Athena vs. Persephone, Shane Taylor Promotions vs. SkyFlight, and Lee Moriarty vs. Komander. Granted, the rest of the lineup is a mystery, but I'll take what we can get. This was a slightly-above-average episode by ROH TV standards thanks to the opener, the main event and the hype for A.J. and Marshall vs. RPG Vice at Full Gear.
