RJ’s Two Cents - Why Overexposure Is Hurting WWE

The WWE has had the injury bug in the past 6 months and major stars are out going into WrestleMania 32. You would think that losing John Cena, Seth Rollins and Randy Orton would be their main weakness but I think an argument can be made that the overexposure that these superstars get is hurting the WWE more.

Since the brand split officially ended, overexposure of WWE superstars has been an issue. When you had two separate rosters and two different shows you wouldn’t be seeing the same matches twice in one week or multiple times over weeks.

The WWE needs to find a way to keep the product fresh and not feature similar matchups week after week after week. I don’t care if the WWE calls up NXT talent or features talent that regularly aren’t on TV because Dolph Ziggler vs. Kevin Owens is becoming Roman Reigns vs. The Big Show. When the WWE avid fan sees this it just shows them that creative isn’t coming up with new ideas or Vince is being Vince.

The casual fan will see the same match and be like "Why is this happening again?" and tune out of the show. I love AJ Styles but he has been featured on every televised show since debuting. Yes, he can increase ratings but when he is featured every week he starts to lose his appeal especially if he is on Raw and SmackDown.

The solution to this issue is to only feature these talents on SmackDown or Raw each week. I am not saying a new brand split because they don’t have the talent to do it. They should have guys like Kevin Owens, Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, AJ Styles, The New Day and Chris Jericho only be on Raw and SmackDown once per week.

This will make it refreshing for the WWE audience. Most mid carders and tag teams can be on both shows since they need talent for these main people to face. Once guys like Seth Rollins, John Cena, Randy Orton and Cesaro come back they could join the list of these people.

Some may disagree with my opinion but I think the overexposure makes these guys seem like another guy on the roster and doesn’t gain my interest when it’s Dean Ambrose & Roman Reigns vs. The League of Nations in the main event of SmackDown for the 5th straight week. I understand that if your feuding opponents will match up but whatever happened to them facing other people and have their rival on commentary or attack them after the match.

We will see Kalisto vs. Alberto Del Rio for the U.S. Title for the fourth time at Fastlane. In one month that is ridiculous. The WWE will probably not do anything about this and keep featuring the same matchups weekly. Brock Lesnar not being overexposed is why he is seen as a special attraction unlike the rest of the roster.
