Mike Santana Interrupted TNA World Champion Frankie Kazarian on The King's Speech

As we get farther away from Kazarian's terrible cash-in, he continues to prove himself as being a great fit for that title right now. Unfortunately, he probably won't have much longer with it before he loses it back to Santana at Genesis, which is probably the right call. This segment not only established that but also hyped up next week's Steel Cage tag team match pitting Team TNA against Team NXT.

Lexis King def. Matt Cardona to Earn the Advantage for Team TNA in Next Week's Steel Cage Match

King has been made to look like such a loser in NXT over the last year that it's difficult to take him seriously at this point, even against someone like Cardona, who should be higher up on the card by this point. The match was serviceable, but it clearly only existed so King and Channing Lorenzo could get one over on Cardona and "injure" him afterward, leading to Santino Marella filling in for him on Team TNA in the aforementioned Steel Cage tag team match. The "advantage" stuff is stupid since this isn't WarGames but they're treating it like it is.

The Elegance Brand (Heather and M by Elegance) def. Myla Grace and Harley Hudson

Have Grace and Hudson won a single match since they joined TNA? We got to know a little bit about them when they debuted, but there's been zero development otherwise, so they've simply settled into an enhancement role. That made this outcome obvious. The match was fine, but I hope this isn't leading to Elegance Brand getting another shot at the TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Championship.

Cedric Alexander def. B.D.E., Ryan Nemeth, Jason Hotch, Jake Something and Dezmond Xavier in a TNA X-Division Championship No. 1 Contender's Six-Way Scramble Match

You put six X-Division guys in the ring together of this caliber and it's hardly a surprise when they have this sort of sprint. This was a lot of fun for as long as it lasted and the outcome wasn't predictable (though I figured Hotch and Xavier weren't winning if we're going to get more from Order 4 and The Rascalz). Alexander already faced and lost to Leon Slater a few months ago, but I'm looking forward to their rematch.

The System (Eddie Edwards and Brian Myers) def. Sinner & Saint

It was announced right before this bout that JDC's retirement match will be against Edwards at Genesis. You'd think Edwards and JDC would've teamed up here because of that, but oh well. The match was well wrestled, but it felt like a glorified squash. The problem is that Sinner & Saint have never been interesting and lost any momentum they had when The Northern Armory disbanded a few months ago.

The Righteous Confronted TNA World Tag Team Champions The Hardys

I was a big fan of The Righteous in AEW and Ring of Honor, so I'm happy to see them in TNA. Both of them are talented talkers, but this wasn't the strongest first promo from them. It dragged on for a while, and although the crowd gave them good heat at certain points, there were also awkward periods of silence where The Righteous were struggling to tie everything together. Hopefully they're able to bounce back with a better promo soon.

Dani Luna def. Indi Hartwell in a Dog Collar Match

Luna and Hartwell have put together a quality rivalry in recent months and this was a nice way to blow it off. This wasn't given a ton of time, but they made the most of the stipulation and I appreciated that we got some blood. Luna lost their previous encounters, so I had no issue with her winning, but I do wonder where Hartwell goes from here since multiple women have now won the TNA Knockouts World Championship before her, including an NXT star.

Overall Show

There was plenty of talk about not only next week's episode but also several shows coming up ahead of the AMC premiere on January 15th. I doubt they're airing original content on Christmas and New Year's Day, so I'm glad they set up a number of matches for the others editions of iMPACT! before and after the holidays. This was a solid show built around the Team TNA vs. Team NXT cage match and was capped off by an enjoyable Dog Collar main event.
