TNA X-Division Champion Moose def. Sami Callihan (Non-Title) In addition to Moose having a scheduled TNA X-Division Championship defense this Sunday at Slammiversary, Callihan has been directionless since his rivalry with Mance Warner ended a few months ago, so there was no reason to think he would win here. Honestly, I'm surprised this was basically booked like a squash for Moose, but I'm not complaining since the outcome was obvious, anyway. Moose humiliated Callihan on his way, which was weird if that doesn't eventually lead to anything. The System (Eddie Edwards, Brian Myers and JDC) vs. Order 4 (Mustafa Ali and The Great Hands) Never Got UnderwayI know this was set up on last week's episode with The System challenging Order 4, but it was an odd match to do with both factions being heel. Thankfully, it didn't end up coming to fruition due to DarkState showing up and returning the favor from Tuesday's NXT by attacking The System. It was a simple angle and The System didn't have to wait long to get revenge (as seen later in the show). Tessa Blanchard def. Dani LunaSpitfire broke up back in May and have done nothing of note since. Shocker, I know. That said, I appreciate Luna had the opportunity to show what she can do on her own for a change. She's very good and that was evident in this outing. Blanchard had to win heading into her Slammiversary match with Indi Hartwell, but I'm glad Luna was made to look credible in defeat. Speaking of Hartwell, she addressed Blanchard in a brief post-match promo. The Elegance Brand, Fatal Influence and TNA Knockouts World Champion Masha Slamovich Interrupted Each OtherIt's strange how there's been what feels like a lot of focus on Ash by Elegance as of late despite her being involved in a TNA Knockouts World Championship match with The IInspiration at Slammiversary. The two teams interacted backstage, but this was more about Slamovich and Jacy Jane exchanging words and hyping their Title vs. Title match. I want Slamovich to win, but I have a sinking feeling it's going to be Jane walking away with both belts. The Home Town Man def. Judas IcarusThe Home Town Man gimmick continues to be perfectly harmless, and I don't mind the idea of him being paired off with Eric Young in a program. It's not like Young is in the midst of anything more important at the moment. This was an easy win for Home Town Man (a.k.a. Cody Deaner) in what was a forgettable affair. Home Town Man vs. Young hasn't been announced for Slammiversary, but I can see it being a last-minute addition to the pre-show. Matt Cardona vs. Jake Painter Ended in a No ContestYou had to know something was up when Cardona called out DarkState for attacking him a week or two ago and was supposed to face an unknown enhancement guy here. He and Painter had just locked up when the lights went out and DarkState hit the ring to lay him out, only for The System to make the save. It looks like The System and Cardona are willing to form a temporary alliance against DarkState seeing as how the eight-man tag team match is now official for Slammiversary. The Hardys and The Rascalz Brawled with TNA World Tag Team Champions The Nemeths and First ClassThe segment started with The Hardys doubting themselves and teasing that this shot at the TNA World Tag Team Championship at Slammiversary could be their last, but I doubt that'll be the case. Leon Slater emerged to give them a pep talk, and then the rest of the segment turned into one big sell for the Ladder match on Sunday night. We heard from all four teams except for The Rascalz and the mic work was serviceable, so despite this not lighting the world on fire, it accomplished what it needed to and the crowd was excited to see them utilize a ladder at the end. Mike Santana and Joe Hendry def. Frankie Kazarian and TNA World Champion Trick WilliamsI feel like I've seen every combination of these guys against each other in the last two months, even though this may have been the first time this match has been done. It was your standard tag team main event where the action was average and Santana pinning Kazarian was predictable, but it served its purpose in building toward the three-way main event on Sunday night. Overall ShowThe entire episode was immediately overshadowed with that quick vignette that aired at the end all but confirming that AJ Styles will be making an appearance at Slammiversary (probably not wrestling, but a man can dream). If so, PHENOMENAL!!! Admittedly, if he doesn't come out to his classic TNA entrance theme, I will be a bit sad. In all seriousness, this was a solid go-home edition of iMPACT!. I was already looking forward to Slammiversary, but the Styles tease has me even more excited for the event.
