Santino Marella Announced TNA X-Division Champion Moose vs. Leon Slater for SlammiversaryIn addition to announcing Moose vs. Slater for Slammiversary, Marella also announced the return of the Champions Challenge match for next week. I'm not sure why these announcements couldn't have been saved for a backstage segment or a pre-taped video package, but I assume it was because Marella just beat Robert Stone to keep his spot as TNA's Director of Authority at Against All Odds and this was his way of establishing that he's still in charge. The IInspiration def. Missa Kate and Brittnie BrooksHas it really been over three years since The IInspiration were last in a TNA ring? That's crazy. The Knockouts tag team division hasn't exactly been lighting the world on fire in their absence, but they are logical challengers for The Elegance Brand at Slammiversary. This was a solid showcase for them in their first bout back and exactly what it needed to be. TNA World Champion Trick Williams Joined First Class on First Class PenthouseI hate to sound like a broken record, but these First Class Penthouse segments aren't very good, largely because we get them so often and it's a lot of talking that doesn't amount to anything and isn't entertaining. It doesn't help that there was just an installment at Against All Odds, so this didn't feel necessary. At least Williams showed up, which was appropriate since they'll be teaming up on Tuesday's NXT. Leon Slater def. Jason HotchWith it already being announced that Slater will challenge Moose for the TNA X-Division Championship at Slammiversary, there was no reason to think Slater was losing here. Despite that, they had the highly enjoyable outing you'd expect from them. Slater has a bright future ahead of him if he can continue to rack up wins and I like the story they've told with him chasing the X-Division title this year as he'll make history if he wins it at the age of 20 at Slammiversary. Indi Hartwell, Jody Threat, Tasha Steelz and Killer Kelly def. Rosemary, Dani Luna, Xia Brookside and Tessa Blanchard; Kelly def. Steelz, Threat and Hartwell in a TNA Knockouts World Championship No. 1 Contender's 8-4-1 MatchI'm not a big fan of the 8-4-1 concept, but I appreciate the effort to do something different. Using it to determine a new number one contender to the Knockouts title was fine. The eight-woman tag team portion was passable and the subsequent four-way was well worked albeit unspectacular. I wasn't expecting an all-out banger, but it should have felt bigger than it did given what was on the line. It'd make more sense to do the four-way portion the following week so both bouts get an ample amount of time. Mance Warner Attacked Tommy DreamerWarner finished his feud with Sami Callihan not too long ago and unsuccessfully challenging Steve Maclin for the TNA International Championship at Against All Odds, so there wasn't much for him to do. Don't tell me him against Dreamer is going to be a full-fledged program. I can understand a one-off match to give Warner a rebound win, but they don't need to waste more than a week or two on this. The Hardys def. First Class by DisqualificationThis wasn't officially branded a number one contender's match for the TNA World Tag Team Championship, but it was implied that the winners could be next in line for a title shot. Normally, you'd expect The Hardys to beat First Class with ease, but First Class have made a few appearances over in NXT lately, so I didn't have an issue with the non-finish. The big brawl that ended the show was a bit random, but the crowd was happy with it. Overall ShowSlammiversary isn't for another five weeks, so they have some time to kill, hence why there wasn't a ton of progression on this edition of iMPACT!. Most of what we got was serviceable, but it didn't translate to the most exciting episode. There isn't even anything I can point to as being must-see or super significant, but at least they moved things along and set up a few matches for the coming weeks and Slammiversary.
