Joe Hendry Addressed the Audience

It was announced last week that Hendry would be challenging Trick Williams for the TNA World Championship at Slammiversary, so this served as basic hype for that match. It was a passionaite promo, and despite what some might think, he still has the fans behind him. The strange thing is that Frankie Kazarian beat him at Against All Odds, yet he didn't avenge that loss and is instead going back after the belt. Okay, then.

Zachary Wentz def. TNA World Tag Team Champion Ryan Nemeth

Nemeth is completely serviceable in the ring, but he's not very exciting to watch, either, so I actually didn't have an issue with this being kept on the shorter side. What we got was fine and Wentz winning was the right call. I hope the idea isn't that The Rascalz are now owed a shot at the TNA World Tag Team Championship because one of them beat one-half of the champs in a singles match because that logic never makes sense to me.

TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Champion Ash by Elegance Won a TNA Knockouts World Championship No. 1 Contender's Battle Royal

This was basically every Battle Royal you've ever seen. It wasn't bad and some stuff happened, but it was largely uninteresting until the very end when it came down to Indi Hartwell and Tessa Blanchard (and Elegance, who came out of hiding to win the whole thing). Elegance pinned Masha Slamovich in a tag team match last week, so I understand giving her a title shot, but is that really being saved for Slammiversay while Slamovich and Killer Kelly have a Chain match on next week's episode? The booking of the TNA Knockouts World Championship picture right now is quite confusing.

Mustafa Ali def. John Skyler in a Call to Arms Match

I can't say I've ever seen a Call to Arms match before. It was a fairly silly stipulation with both guys being tied to the top rope to start the match and whoever freed themselves first would have the advantage. At least they couldn't be counted-out or disqualified. To their credit, they made the most of it and had a good match. Cedric Alexander debuting afterward and standing up to Ali was cool given their history on WWE's 205 Live program years ago.

The Hardys def. The Northern Armory (Travis Williams and Judas Icarus)

This was less about showcasing Northern Armory (who have quickly settled into an enhancement role) and more about giving Hardys a straightforward win. There wasn't much to the match, but honestly, there didn't need to be. The Hardys brought out Leon Slater afterward to hype him up and allow him to address Moose ahead of their TNA X-Division Championship clash.

TNA X-Division Champion Moose def. Shane Sabre and Jake Painter in a Three-Way Match (Non-Title)

Slater stuck around at ringside and sat in on commentary. Moose put himself in a three-way match to prove he was ready for Slammiversary and obviously had no issue beating these two jobbers. It was barely two minutes long, so there's not much to say about it, but it served its purpose. The commentators have played up how Moose recently surpassed Tigre Uno as the second-longest TNA X-Division champ of all-time, but I've got Slater taking the title at Slammiversary.

Mike Santana def. A.J. Francis in a Street Fight

Say what you will about Francis, but the dude delivers when it matters most and he put forth a hell of an effort here, along with Santana. This was a fun Street Fight with plenty of entertaining action and an invested crowd. Santana cut a post-match promo about setting his sights on the TNA World Championship, which gives me hope he'll be added to the title match at Slammiversary after all and win it in his native New York.

Overall Show

Most of the show was business as usual and it would have been a solid two hours, but it was made better by the Street Fight main event and Alexander's debut. Both of those things are worth seeking out and the rest of the episode was worthwhile as far as building toward Slammiversary, a pay-per-view that is shaping up to be promising on paper. Most of the matches are clear and the event isn't for another three weeks.
