TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Champions Heather and Ash by Elegance def. Tatum Paxley and Gigi Dolin (Non-Title)I thought there was a strong chance Paxley and Dolin would win because they're NXT talents and it'd set them up for a future title shot, but I'm actually glad that wasn't the case. This was a fairly average outing, but the two teams had nice chemistry. Based on Paxley and Dolin pushing Heather by Elegance's face into her cake (get your mind out of the gutter) afterward, it looks like we haven't seen the last of them against each other. Chavo Guerrero and The Aztec Warriors def. First Class and Frankie KazarianThis was the perfect spot for Guerrero because he didn't have to work a singles match yet he still had a chance to shine in front of a crowd that was behind him. He worked well with Aztec Warriors and the heels played their roles well. This won't accomplish much in the long run other than building to a rematch between Aztec Warriors and First Class, but it definitely exceeded my expectations. TNA Knockouts World Champion Masha Slamovich def. Jacy Jane (Non-Title)It was refreshing to see the TNA stars beat the NXT stars in two different matches on this show. And it's not as if Jane, Paxley and Dolin aren't established, either. Jane had a standout showing against Stephanie Vaquer on NXT TV a month or two ago and was once again impressive here. Of course, having an opponent of Slamovich's caliber certainly helped, but Jane more than held her own in what was a good match. Post-match, Tessa Blanchard attacked Slamovich before Xia Brookside and Lei Ying Lee made the save. Eric Young def. Ace AustinYoung continues to kill time until he and Steve Maclin agree to face each other at Rebellion. In the meantime, he's winning matches, so that's a positive. After Austin's recent allies The Rascalz beat The Northern Armory last week, it was logical for Young to pick up the victory here. They had a quality contest. The biggest surprise is that The Rascalz didn't show up at all, especially with Austin outnumbered. Frankie Kazarian Confronted TNA World Champion Joe Hendry and ElijahKazarian just wrestled earlier in the episode, so it was weird seeing him resurface for this segment. However, he was there to tease tension between Hendry and Elijah. Elijah said he wouldn't turn on Hendry like everyone thought he would, but I still think it's coming, just when Hendry least expects it. This was a perfectly fine segment, but hopefully we're getting closer to Hendry vs. Elijah being made official for Rebellion because I don't know who Hendry would defend against otherwise. Nic Nemeth def. Leon SlaterNemeth was never going to lose in his first match since turning heel, especially to Slater, but they made you think there was a chance with some of those suspenseful nearfalls down the stretch. Few are better at that in their matches than Nemeth, who's also an outstanding seller. He made Slater look terrific in defeat. The Hardys came out afterward to confirm that they'll defend their TNA World Tag Team Championship against the Nemeth brothers at Rebellion. Overall ShowAll in all, this was a solid edition of iMPACT! and I appreciated that it was heavy on the in-ring action while also featuring some storyline progression heading into Rebellion. Nothing on this episode blew me away, but they filled the two hours effectively and ensured that everything mattered. This was an easy thumbs-up show for me and I hope they can put together a compelling card for their next big outing on pay-per-view.
