WWE Main Event Review - September 12, 2024

Dante Chen def. Uriah Connors

This was Chen's sixth match on Main Event this year and his fourth in the last month. No, I don't think that means a main roster call-up for him is imminent. Rather, he's a good opponent for pretty much anyone, especially the newcomers. Connors is a mainstay on NXT Level Up and is actually one of Fit Finlay's sons, which I didn't know until recently. They had a well-worked match and Connors continues to show signs of potential.

Alpha Academy (Otis and Akira Tozawa) def. O.T.M. (Bronco Nima and Lucien Price)

Nima and Price aren't improving at the same rate their O.T.M. stablemate Jaida Parker seems to be, but they're perfectly fine in the ring as of now, not to mention facing a team as over as Alpha Academy obviously helped their case here. This was another nice match with Alpha Academy getting a great reaction from the crowd and O.T.M. scoring some offense before eating defeat.

Overall Show

NXT's presence on Main Event tends to be inconsistent. There will be a stretch of shows where at least one (though usually more) NXT talent is featured, and then there won't be any episodes that feature NXT talent for a while. Chen feels like a Main Event regular at this point and he gave some shine to Connors. The tag team match was also solid, making for a middle-of-the-road show on the whole.
