Drew McIntyre def. Jey Uso, LA Knight, Carmelo Hayes, Chad Gable and Andrade to Win the Men's Money in the Bank Ladder MatchMost Money in the Bank Ladder matches blend together for me at this point because we've gotten so many of them in the last two decades, but this was among the stronger ones I've seen in recent memory. Everyone had their time to shine and there were a number of memorable spots. McIntyre winning was the most predictable outcome (to set up what happened a little later on) and I was hoping anyone else would win, but no such luck. What did surprise me, however, was the lack of interference, especially from Logan Paul. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. They opened the event in electric fashion. Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn def. Bron BreakkerBreakker has had some gems so far in his WWE run (including run), but this one ranks high up on the list. Breakker is adapting exceptionally well to the main roster and looked like he belonged in there with Zayn. He was awesome while on offense and Zayn excelled as the underdog per usual. The clean finish was slightly shocking, but considering Breakker dominated a majority of the match, I have no doubt he'll bounce back. Hell, he could be Intercontinental Champion as soon as SummerSlam. John Cena Announced He'll Retire From In-Ring Competition in 2025Cena making an appearance came out of nowhere, but the announcement of a retirement tour did not. Cena has been teasing retiring from the ring for months now in interviews, but I didn't think it'd be happening as early as 2025 or that it'd take the form that it will. That said, I love the idea of him having a whole bunch of matches from all year long. He confirmed he'll be a part of the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania next year and added during the press conference that he'll be competing on several other premium live events throughout 2025. Give me Cena vs. CM Punk one more time and I'll be content. World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest def. Drew McIntyre and Seth "Freakin" Rollins in a Triple Threat Match (McIntyre Cashed In His Money in the Bank Contract)I know not everyone is on board with Priest as World Heavyweight Champion, but the guy continues to prove himself in the ring with every title defense he has. This was another above-average match with great work from both men. Rollins looked slightly slower than usual, but that may have just been me. The botched kick-out was unfortunate because it was pretty bad, but they immediately rebounded with McIntyre's cash-in. They took the most obvious path with Punk costing McIntyre the title for a third time, and while it furthers their feud heading into SummerSlam, I hate that it had to come at the expense of the briefcase. I probably would've been fine with it had WWE not already done similar angles with Punk and McIntyre at WrestleMania 40 and Clash at the Castle. Additionally, per the Last Chance stipulation for Rollins, he can no longer challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship for the remainder of Priest's reign. Tiffany Stratton def. Chelsea Green, Lyra Valkyria, IYO SKY, Naomi and Zoey Stark to Win the Women's Money in the Bank Ladder MatchThere were quite a few rough moments early on. I don't know what went wrong, but it seemed like a lot of the ladies weren't on the same page in the first half. They then went all out and delivered some insane spots, so kudos to all of them for their effort. It turned out to be an entertaining car crash. Stratton winning was the correct choice. She has a very bright future ahead of her and doesn't need to cash in anytime soon. The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga and Jacob Fatu) def. Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton and Kevin OwensIf there wasn't going to be a big development at the end of this match or afterward, then it shouldn't have been what closed the show. Yes, Sikoa pinning Rhodes was definitely notable, but it made for a flat finish when the match was just kicking into that next gear. All in all, it was a solid six-man tag team matchup with a hot closing stretch. I wish the WWE audience got to see more of what Fatu can do since this marked his debut as this was only a small taste, but he shined, nonetheless. Needless to say, Rhodes vs. Sikoa is the play for SummerSlam and I suspect that will be where Roman Reigns returns. Overall ShowI wasn't fond of how the men's Money in the Bank briefcase was wasted, but I still would've put Priest vs. Rollins on last because the six-man tag team match didn't feel as special given the lack of stakes. Otherwise, this was a super enjoyable event. WWE has hit home run after home run on pay-per-view this year and this was no exception. Most stuff played out the way I thought it would, but there were some surprises as well. There's plenty to be excited about going forward in WWE and the card SummerSlam became even more clear after this event.
