WWE NXT Level Up Review - December 27, 2024

Layla Diggs, Carlee Bright and Kendal Grey def. Lainey Reid, Wendy Choo and Kali Armstrong

I couldn't tell you the last six-woman tag team match we got on this show (if ever), so it was cool to get all of the Level Up regulars in one match for the finale. This was good stuff from all involved and I liked that Diggs finally gave Reid her comeuppance by pinning her for the win. I'm curious if we end up seeing any of these women soon on NXT TV (not counting Choo because she's obviously established) or if they'll remain on NXT's live event circuit for now.

Dante Chen def. Kale Dixon, Harlem Lewis and Keanu Carver in a Gauntlet Match

As the gatekeeper of NXT (specifically Level Up), Chen issued this open challenge Gauntlet match to send the show off in style. Chen beat Carver and Lewis pretty quickly, so those were nothing matches, but the mini match with Dixon had more drama because Chen could've actually lost after already facing two other guys. He fought from underneath and went over as he should have, which made for a nice moment. I just wish this had more time to be more than what it was, but then again, Level Up was never about above-average in-ring action.

Overall Show

I appreciate that they formally announced Level Up was ending instead of having a random episode end it. Ideally, I would've liked the Gauntlet match to last the entire episode, but the six-woman tag team match was enjoyable and it properly paid off the program between Diggs and Reid. Level Up has served its purpose in the last three years and plenty of up-and-coming talent benefited from the platform, but I can't say I'm sad to see it go necessarily. Hopefully these guys and girls continues to get reps on the house shows before making it to NXT TV.
