Fatal Influence Interrupted the Women's Iron Survivor Challenge SummitThe fields for both the men's and women's Iron Survivor Challenge matches at Deadline were only announced a week ago, which didn't leave much time to hype either of them. That said, this segment did what it could to get viewers invested in each combatant's chances of winning. The mic work was solid and Fatal Influence interrupting them set up the six-woman tag team match for later in the night. Thea Hail def. Arianna GraceBackstage, Grace and Channing Lorenzo were shown insulting Hail and Joe Hendry for losing at Night 1 of Gold Rush, so that's how this came about. It was a brief bout, so there wasn't anything out of the ordinary about it, but it did give Hail a chance to bounce back with a win. I'm glad she's been getting more television time lately after disappearing from NXT TV for several months. Josh Briggs def. Tavion HeightsWith this being a rematch from a few weeks ago, I wasn't at all surprised Briggs got his win back. I assume this is building to a rubber match, likely with a stipulation. This was a well-worked outing from them and Heights was protected by having the visual pin while the referee was removing Briggs' chain from the ring. It's basic booking, but at least it's keeping Heights busy. Tatum Paxley Interrupted Izzi DameDame was incredibly boring and generic when she first arrived on the scene two years ago, but to her credit, she's come a long way since then, specifically on the mic. I thought she cut a pretty good promo here explaining her betrayal of Paxley two weeks ago, and Paxley responded with a quality promo of her own. It was announced they'll go one-on-one at Deadline. Sol Ruca, Lola Vice and Evolve Women's Champion Kendal Grey def. Fatal Influence (NXT Women's Champion Jacy Jane, WWE Women's Speed Champion Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid)This was essentially a showcase for three of the four babyfaces in the women's Iron Survivor Challenge match. They all had a chance to shine, making for a fun six-woman tag team affair. We tend to see this formula quite a bit from Fatal Influence, but they have it down to a science at this point. Hopefully Ruca pinning Jane is a sign she'll be winning on Saturday and will be next in line for a shot at the NXT Women's Championship. O.T.M. def. Chase U (Kale Dixon and Uriah Connors)O.T.M. have gotten so many start-and-pushes that it's difficult to care about them at this point, especially when they don't seem to beat anyone of note. The same can be said for this version of Chase U. These teams aren't going to benefit from working with each other. The match was passable, but the crowd being as quiet as they were spoke volumes. I don't blame them for not giving a shit if we don't know where this is going. Myles Borne, Je'Von Evans, Joe Hendry and TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater def. DarkState (Cutler James, Dion Lennox and NXT Tag Team Champions Osiris Griffin and Saquon Shugars)Lennox gave his NXT Tag Team Championship belt to Shugars backstage before this bout, so I guess that means that he and Griffin will be the champs going forward and that they're technically not using the Freebird Rule. Nonetheless, this was a nice main event. We've seen a lot of these from DarkState this year, and this wasn't much different from those, but they tried to pack a lot into a limited amount of time and the crowd was into it. As a result of picking up the win for his team, Borne gets to pick which spot he enters in for the men's Iron Survivor Challenge match. Overall ShowThis show actually ended with a quick contract signing for Ricky Saints and Oba Femi's NXT Championship match at Deadline, where it was established they'll be opening the show on Saturday night. Interesting. This was a decent go-home edition of NXT, but it doesn't help that the build for Deadline had to be rushed. Thankfully, the Iron Survivor Challenge concept is still exciting enough that it should be enough to carry the event on its own.
