The Vanity Project (Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes) def. DarkState (Shaquon Shugars and Osiris Griffin) to Win the NXT Tag Team Championship

The heel vs. heel dynamic was strange, but this was a better bout than I was expecting. They worked a nice pace and delivered an enjoyable opener. As I've said before, Vanity Project are a great addition to NXT's tag team ranks and I was in full favor of them taking the tag titles here. It was also logical for Tony D'Angelo to factor into the finish and cost DarkState their belts.

Keanu Carver def. Sean Legacy

They're clearly in the process of making Carver out to be a monster on this roster, so I get having him run through guys at the bottom of the pecking order to start out. This was another standard squash from him. Time will tell if he'll end up being more than just average, though. I thought the same thing about Oba Femi and look how he turned out, so I do have faith that Carver will gradually put the pieces together as well.

Elio Lefleur def. Jasper Troy and Eli Knight in a Triple Threat Match to Win the WWE Speed Championship

This had a seven-minute time limit instead of the usual three minutes because it was a Triple Threat. It undoubtedly benefited from getting more time as it was a fun sprint. Lefleur and Knight did their thing and Troy served as a solid base for them. Lefleur capturing the title was the correct call, but I didn't think he'd pin Troy to do it. Maybe this means Troy is done with the Speed stuff and Lefleur and Knight will go on to feud with each other.

NXT Women's Champion Jacy Jane def. Sol Ruca

It finally happened. The only shocker was that Zaria attacked Ruca before the bell rang, so Jane just hit her finisher on Ruca and pinned her for the win. I thought they'd save it for right before the finish, but I had no problem with them doing it the way they did instead. Needless to say, this has been a very long time coming. Now the question is whether they'll rush through the rivalry so Ruca can promptly be called up to the main roster where she belongs at this point.

NXT Women's North American Champion Izzi Dame Interrupted Tatum Paxley; Thea Hail def. Blake Monroe in a WWE Women's Speed Championship No. 1 Contender's Tournament Semifinal Match

Paxley's promo was damn good. She's figured out her character and is excelling on that front. I'm tired of her working with Dame, but that should be over after Vengeance Day, or so I hope. The subsequent match between Hail and Monroe was total throwaway, unfortunately. Monroe losing in a matter of minutes was a stupid decision, even if it was a Speed-style matchup. Yes, Jaida Parker attacked Monroe at ringside before she lost, but still. Does this mean Parker's okay and isn't actually hurt?

Uriah Connors def. Kale Dixon

Hopefully this marks the end of Chase U forever. This latest iteration never clicked and only felt like an excuse to get these guys on the show. I'm not confident that Connors will be better off with Lexis King's crew, but it's worth a shot. The match itself was perfectly passable and didn't last longer than it needed to. I'd be shocked if we see much more of Dixon on NXT TV going forward.

Myles Borne def. Ethan Page to Win the NXT North American Championship

This is what Page's lengthy title reign has been building to. They've teased it many times in recent months and I'm glad they pulled the trigger. This came across like a big deal and it was a well-deserved win for Borne, who has made great strides as a singles star this past year. Although I wasn't fond of the excessive amount of interference in last week's North American title defense, it made sense in retrospect with it being thwarted here by the babyfaces. I'd argue this should have been saved for Vengeance Day, but it's cool that it got the main event spotlight on this show.

Overall Show

Well, this was certainly an eventful edition of NXT with three titles changing hands and Zaria turning on Ruca (even though you could see that coming from a mile away). I guess I'm more so surprised that they'd give away so much before Vengeance Day next weekend. What the hell are they going to do on that show to make it worthwhile? I'm all for shaking stuff up, but the timing was weird because you'd totally forget there's a premium live event that they're supposed to be building toward.
