TNA World Champion Trick Williams def. Josh BriggsIt still makes zero sense to me that Briggs would be granted a TNA World Championship opportunity after it was Yoshiki Inamura who pinned Williams in last week's six-man tag team match. Unfortunately, this wasn't very good as they didn't exactly click as opponents. Joe Hendry returned afterward to attack and fend off Williams. For those who missed it, Hendry will get his rematch with Williams for the title at Slammiversary next month. Je'Von Evans def. Tavion HeightsI've long been high on Heights' potential, so I hope he gets more opportunities to shine on his own like Myles Borne has as of late. This was a nice, competitive contest with the expected outcome. Jasper Troy laid out Evans afterward and I don't think that will go unanswered. That's a logical next feud for Troy, assuming he doesn't earn another NXT Championship opportunity next week. Ricky Saints def. Ashante "Thee" AdonisAdonis has been a regular on NXT TV since returning to the brand last summer, but I don't think it was necessary for him to be in there for as long as he was with Saints. What we got was decent, though. Ethan Page attacked Saints afterward to further that feud. It hasn't been officially announced, but I assume we get the rubber match at The Great American Bash. Jasper Troy Attacked Yoshiki Inamura and Faced off with NXT Champion Oba FemiInamura established last week that he wanted the NXT Championship, hence why he gave his TNA World Championship shot to Briggs (again, makes no sense). Inamura could've just challenged Williams, but I guess Femi vs. Inamura is a more appealing main event for The Great American Bash than Femi vs. Briggs. This was a solid segment, and Troy attacking Inamura sets them up for next week's number one contender's match. Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo def. Tony D'Angelo to Win the Vacant NXT Heritage Cup ChampionshipIt was announced over the weekend that Noam Dar had to vacate the NXT Heritage Cup title because of an injury (he was already out injured for roughly a year prior to returning in April), so the decision was made to involve a title I don't care about in a feud I don't care about. How fitting. I appreciated the story they were trying to tell here, but it just wasn't very interesting. Plus, D'Angelo continues to come off as unlikable despite seemingly being the babyface. Jordynne Grace def. Jaida Parker, Izzi Dame and Lash Legend in an NXT Women's Championship No. 1 Contender's Evolution Eliminator Fatal 4-Way MatchI'm surprised the crowd was as quiet as they were for this considering there was some star power involved. It was a well-worked Fatal 4-Way, but it paled in comparison to the other Fatal 4-Ways we've gotten on WWE TV recently. Grace was the correct choice to go over. My guess is that she fails to beat Jacy Jane for the NXT Women's Championship at Evolution and then gets called up to Raw or SmackDown. Overall ShowI guess you could call this an eventful episode with the TNA World Championship being defended, a new NXT Heritage Cup Champion being crowned and Jane's Evolution opponent being determined, but it certainly wasn't an exciting episode. Rather, it was an average offering on the whole. There aren't any storylines that are really grabbing me at the moment. Stuff is happening, but everything feels formulaic without any long-term plans in place.
