NXT North American Champion Myles Borne def. Ethan PageThe show started with Borne addressing his NXT North American Championship victory from last week before Page interrupted, which turned into an impromptu title rematch. The fact it came out of nowhere added to the unpredictability, but their original encounter was better with more drama. I assume Borne beating Page yet again means we're moving on from this feud. Jaida Parker Confronted and Attacked Blake MonroeI've been digging how this feud has progressed in the last few weeks and I'm glad their match made the Vengeance Day card. This was enjoyable interaction between the two, as well as what we got from them later on with it being announced that their outing will be a Street Fight. Parker obviously excels in that environment, and we'll see if Monroe will embrace her darker side as she did later on in this show. Wren Sinclar def. Nikkita Lyons in a WWE Women's Speed Championship No. 1 Contender's Tournament Semifinal MatchI'm amazed Lyons is still a thing in NXT. I know she's a regular in Evolve these days and that's fine, but that's where she should stay if they're going to keep her employed. At the very least, she's being relegated to the Speed stuff, so that's the best spot for her on this show. Sinclair has much more potential and her winning was obviously the correct call. This was perfectly fine for what it was. Shiloh Hill, Hank Walker and Tank Ledger def. The Vanity Project (Evolve Men's Champion Jackson Drake and NXT Tag Team Champions Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes)Hill has quality chemistry with Walker and Ledger, but those two are basically comedy goofs at this point, so I hope this doesn't become a permanent pairing. I feel he has a higher ceiling than that. Nonetheless, this was a fun match with the babyfaces getting a measure of revenge on the heels. I can see Walker and Ledger getting a shot at the NXT Tag Team Championship coming out of this. Dion Lennox Called Out Tony D'AngeloThe rest of DarkState was attacked backstage beforehand, so I like the idea that D'Angelo will get Lennox one-on-one at Vengeance Day as part of his quest to eliminate all of DarkState. I also liked the way this segment was structured to set up their brawl for Saturday. D'Angelo continues to tease the second part of his master plan without outright saying what it is. NXT Women's Champion Jacy Jane vs. Zaria Ended in a No ContestYou knew exactly how this was going to go the second it was announced. The interference from Sol Ruca was inevitable, but the match prior to that point was decent. This is clearly leading to a Triple Threat for the title with Jane, Zaria and Ruca. I'm just surprised that it wasn't announced for Vengeance Day on Saturday. Maybe they're saving it for Stand & Deliver? I'd get it over with before then so we can get Ruca vs. Zaria there instead. NXT Champion Joe Hendry Attacked Ricky SaintsThe "Absolute Experience" hosted by Saints was esentially his own version of a Hendry concert, and it wasn't nearly as entertaining. Saints is great, but signing certainly isn't his strong suit, and I suppose that was the point. This wasn't the best hype for their NXT Championship clash at Vengeance Day, but Borne helping Hendry fend off Saints and Vanity Project was interesting. Overall ShowI maintain that it doesn't feel like NXT has a premium live event coming up on Saturday, but the build was what it needed to be on this show. They touched on the entire card in one way or another and furthered other storylines. It wasn't the most exciting episode on the whole, but it was still a serviceable show and they filled the time effectively. There was more emphasis on the promos than the action, but it made sense with it being a go-home episode.
