NXT Women's North American Champion Kelani Jordan def. Wren SinclairSinclar has been an excellent addition to No Quarter Catch Crew and has given them that extra "something" they were previously lacking. She's significantly more experienced than Jordan, so she was a good opponent for Jordan here and they had a nice match. Jordan has been excelling in the role of champion and the title has given these midcard matches for the women more meaning. A-Town Down Under Attacked NXT Tag Team Champions Axiom and Grayson Waller on The Grayson Waller EffectA-Town Down Under being announced as the next challengers to the NXT Tag Team Championship last week was so random, but I guess it's a fine feud for the champs before The Motor City Machine Guns reportedly arrive. I'd say it allows Grayson Waller and Austin Theory to further tease tension, but that's been going on months and I'm just ready for the split. This was a solid segment to build toward their championship clash in two weeks. Hank Walker and Tank Ledger def. The O.C. (Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows)Walker and Ledger beat The O.C. in their last outing a month or so ago and they've hardly benefited since then, so I can't imagine this victory will make much of a difference, either. This should feel like a bigger deal, but The O.C. have largely been losers in NXT and are basically collecting a paycheck at this point. The match was fine for what it was, but it was difficult to care. Oro Mensah def. Lexis KingBoth of these guys apparently have father issues and that's where their newfound feud stems from. I appreciate the effort to give this match a story, but there still wasn't anything out of the ordinary about it. If nothing else, hopefully this win can get Mensah back on track after generating some real momentum in his rivalry with Ethan Page. As for King, he always does well with whatever he's given to do, but beating him has little value because his booking is so shoddy. Ridge Holland def. Riley OsborneHolland has been impressive since turning heel and Osborne is a blast to watch wrestle, so I was looking forward to this match coming into it. Granted, it was rather brief, but it was a fun sprint while it lasted and I liked the clash of styles. They brawled afterward, so I assume we'll get a rematch before Andre Chase eventually returns to face Holland, presumably at Halloween Havoc. Wes Lee and Zachary Wentz Exchanged WordsThis was supposed to be a "live" interview with Vic Joseph asking them questions, but Lee and Wentz starting talking trash on their own. The expletives made their bad blood feel real, similar to the split-screen interview Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle had two years ago. This was a refreshing chance of pace compared to how these things are usually handled. Their Street Fight next week should be awesome. Rosemary and Wendy Choo def. Brinley Reece and Karmen PetrovicReece and Petrovic don't have much (if any) experience as a team, so that pretty much guaranteed a win for the heels. That was absolutely the right call because Rosemary needed a win on NXT TV to avoid being labeled a glorified enhancement talent and she's better than that. The match was okay, but it was more about advancing the story with Petrovic being distracted by Ashante Adonis at ringside and giving the heels a much-needed victory. A-Town Down Under def. Je'Von Evans and Cedric AlexanderAlexander and Evans work really well together, but Alexander essentially traded Adonis as a partner for Evans. Hey, no complaints. This was a competitive contest, but the outcome was expected because it would've been silly for A-Town Down Under to lose before next week's tag title shot. This was an enjoyable outing. Axiom and Frazer accidentally costing Evans and Alexander win makes me wonder if we'll get another multi-team tag title match soon. Stephanie Vaquer Appeared During NXT Women's Champion Roxanne Perez and Giulia's Press ConferenceI wasn't a fan of the "press conferences" throughout the show because the "press" were clearly plants and the questions were lame. I understand they wanted to try something different to hype next week's CW premiere, but the format fell flat for me. That said, Perez and Giulia both shined in this environment and did a quality job hyping up their huge match for next week. Vaquer popping up on the big screen at the very end was a hell of a hook as well. Overall ShowMuch like SmackDown a few weeks ago, this show was also an end of an era as it marked the final edition of NXT on USA Network ahead of the move to The CW. It's been quite a run, and the video package they put together honoring the last five years was terrific. All in all, this was an adequate episode. The final push for the first two shows on The CW was well done and most of the stuff held my attention.
