Ava and Santino Marella Named NXT Champion Ricky Saints, TNA Knockouts Champion Jacy Jane, Mike Santana and TNA Knockouts World Champion Kelani Jordan Their Team CaptainsSaints had some time to address his NXT Championship win from No Mercy, but it was quickly overshadowed by all of the invasion talk. Speaking of "invasion," next week's episode has been renamed to Showdown due it falling on the two-year anniversary of when Israel was invaded. That's understandable, but surely they could've come up with something more creative than Showdown. Nevertheless, this segment established who the the team captains will be for next week's Survivor Series-style tag team elimination matches, though I wish there was a better explanation for why Jordan is leading the women's team for TNA considering she only just won the TNA Knockouts World Championship four days ago. Jaida Parker def. Lash LegendLegend went over in their last outing, so it made sense for Parker to avenge the loss here. They had a well-worked match that was given an ample amount of time. Surely, this is is leading to a rubber matchup with some sort of a stipulation. I'd have Parker go over because I think she has the brighter future, not to mention Legend should be main roster bound at this point. Mustafa Ali Confronted NXT North American Champion Ethan PageThere's been a lot of teases for Page having a singles match with AAA's El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. soon, but since that isn't exactly a match I'm hyped for, I was much happier to see Ali show up instead. As he mentioned, he was set to challenge for the NXT North American Championship exactly two years ago before he was released, so I love that they're going back to this for next week's show. Honestly, I'd have Ali win the title since NXT has won enough of TNA's titles so far. Myles Borne def. Josh Briggs to Qualify for NXT's Men's Survivor Series TeamBorne just won his feud with Lexis King, so it would have been silly for him to lose here. Briggs would've benefited from a rebound win after already losing at No Mercy, but I'm glad Borne will be representing NXT next week. This was a quality contest, though I'm not sure why Matt Cardona interfered to cost Briggs the victory. The commentators framed it as Cardona wanted to impress Santana to get on TNA's men's team, but that clearly wasn't the case at the end of the night. Lola Vice def. Fallon Henley to Qualify for NXT's Men's Survivor Series TeamIt was confirmed on this show that it was Lainey Reid who helped Jane beat Vice at No Mercy. Personally, I would've preferred to see Henley on NXT's women's team, but I get including Vice on the team. Most of the matches on this show received some time, but not this one. It was perfectly fine while it lasted. Poor Henley, who might be eating more losses now that Jazmyn Nyx is gone from Fatal Influence/the company. TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater and Je'Von Evans def. The Culling (Shawn Spears and Niko Vance)Slater and Evans are both special talents and I'm excited to see them collide for the TNA X-Division Championship at Bound for Glory. The NXT audience is obviously already familiar with what Evans can do, but this served as a nice showcase of Slater for anyone unfamiliar with his skills. The Culling are just there to eat losses at this point, so I was surprised this was as competitive of a contest as it was. The NXT vs. TNA Summit Descended Into ChaosThis was where we found out who will fill out the men's and women's teams for next week's Survivor Series-style matches. The picks were largely logical, so both bouts should be good. The show-closing brawl was expected yet ended the show in chaotic fashion. On a side note, Jordan hilariously spoiled that The IInspiration will be winning the TNA Knockouts World Tag Team Championship on Thursday's iMPACT!, for anyone that cares. Overall ShowNXT quickly put the solid-yet-unspectacular No Mercy show in the rear view to fully focus on next week's Showdown episode. This whole thing feels rushed and lazily put together, but I understand it's their way of combatting AEW Title Tuesday airing that same night. Nonetheless, this edition of NXT was effective as far as building toward that and setting the stage for a show that's shaping up to be far more interesting than No Mercy was.
