WWE SummerSlam: Night 2 Review - August 3, 2025

Women's World Champion Naomi def. Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY in a Triple Threat Match

It was going to be difficult for these three women to top the Triple Threat that SKY and Ripley had with Bianca Belair at WrestleMania 41, but they had a great match, nonetheless. It was really well paced, Ripley and SKY's chemistry was excellent as always, and Naomi shined as well. It would've been ridiculous for Naomi to lose the title so soon after winning it, so her retaining was the correct outcome.

WWE Tag Team Champions The Wyatt Sicks (Joe Gacy and Dexter Lumis) def. Fraxiom, The Street Profits, The Motor City Machine Guns, #DIY, and Andrade & Rey Fenix in a Six-Pack TLC Match

What a spectacle. Sure, it was a bloated car crash with an excessive amount of teams (not to mention all of the interference), but it was also every bit as entertaining as I expected it would be given the immense level of talent involved and the roll SmackDown's tag team division has been on for the better part of the past year. My only complaint is that the finish felt a tad anticlimactic. I don't mind Wyatt Sicks retaining, but they could've ended on a hotter note. Otherwise, this was a tremendous time.

Women's Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch def. Lyra Valkyria in a No Disqualification, No Count-Out Last Chance Match

It's funny how WWE decided to bill this match considering we already had a Street Fight set for the main event. Maybe don't do two of them on the same show? Lynch and Valkyria's earlier encounters over the Women's Intercontinental Championship were some of the best of the year, whereas this actually suffered from the stipulation. It didn't help that they had to follow the TLC match, but it went on way too long and the crowd was largely bored, which was unfortunate. The flat finish with Bayley accidentally costing Valkyria the victory only made matters worse. This was a poor payoff to what's otherwise been a fantastic feud.

United States Champion Solo Sikoa def. Jacob Fatu in a Steel Cage Match

What a dud of a cage match. I didn't have high hopes for this to begin with, but there was nothing exciting about this whatsoever and all of the excessive interference felt like it would never end. These two just don't have the most stellar chemistry, and then to top it all off, Sikoa retained in the most underwhelming fashion imaginable by simply falling out of the cage door. If Fatu was going to stand tall in the end regardless, why not just have him win at that point?

Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio def. AJ Styles

This was basically a giant love letter to Eddie Guerrero. It didn't do much for me personally, I can understand with it being the 20-year anniversary of the "custody of Dominik" Ladder match, and the crowd certainly enjoyed the many callbacks. From a quality standpoint, this could have very easily occurred on an episode of Raw. Mysterio retaining was hardly shocking, but it was the fifth consecutive finish where the fan favorite did not win (I don't know what the hell you'd consider Wyatt Sicks these days).

Cody Rhodes def. John Cena in a Street Fight to Win the Undisputed WWE Championship; Brock Lesnar Returned

I'm genuinely amazed that this exceeded my expectations. Granted, the bar after their subpar WrestleMania main event earlier this year was fairly low, but they more than made up for that match by putting forth a commendable effort and delivering a super strong Street Fight. I could've done without the countless kickouts, but everything else was top-notch. Where's this Cena been the last few years? As for Lesnar's return, I'm conflicted. I want to be happy about it, but he was named in a serious lawsuit that hasn't been resolved yet. Why not wait until after it is to bring him back? The fallout is going to be interesting, to say the least.

Overall Show

This was definitely an improvement over Night 1, though the pacing and some of the booking decisions were questionable, to say the least. Why put five matches that had no disqualifications on the same night instead of putting at least one of them on Night 1? Lesnar's return will sadly overshadow the highlights of the night and the rest of the weekend, but there's no doubt it will have fans buzzing and that's exactly what the company wants. The TLC match was a blast and the main event was above-average, but the other four matches were a mixed bag.
