Rey Mysterio Addressed the Audience

I have to imagine Mysterio would have wrestled on this show had he not gotten hurt right before WrestleMania 41. I'm glad they still had him appear in front of the live crowd, though. Granted, he spoke in Spanish for a majority of the promo, but I did see someone say that he mentioned that AAA now has the "seal of authenticity" thanks to WWE. If that's true, that's a ridiculous thing to say, but this was a logical way to open the event otherwise.

Octagon Jr., Aero Star and Mr. Iguana def. Lince Dorado and The LWO (Dragon Lee and Cruz Del Toro)

Octagon was clearly designed to be the star of the match (especially based on what happened afterward), but the real star was Mr. Iguana. I can't say I was familiar with him whatsoever coming into this contest, but the crowd ate up all of his offense. Don't be shocked to see him pop up elsewhere on WWE TV in the future. This was an electric opener and the crowd popped huge for the announcement that Dominik Mysterio (who was sitting ringside in the crowd with Liv Morgan) would defend his Intercontinental Championship against Octagon at Money in the Bank later on.

Stephanie Vaquer and Lola Vice def. Chik Tormenta and Dalys

Vaquer has to be the MVP of WWE right now. She wrestled on Monday's Raw, Friday's SmackDown, here and will be wrestling again tonight at Money in the Bank. That's four televised matches in less than a week, including two in one day. WWE is aware she's a star and I'm glad they're capitalizing on the buzz surrounding her at the moment. There wasn't anything out of the ordinary about this, but it was a well-worked affair. I could see Vice getting a title run in NXT soon enough.

Legado del Fantasma (Santos Escobar and Los Garza) def. El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., Psycho Clown and Pagano

This lasted significantly longer than I thought it would, but that's not at all a bad thing. It gave the AAA guys a chance to shine and Legado a chance to remind viewers what they're capable of. They've primarily been an afterthought for the last year, so this was a welcome return to form for them. Escobar and Berto have been teasing tension for months, but Legado was a cohesive unit here and won, which made sense after the AAA crew won the other six-man tag team match earlier on.

NXT North American Champion Ethan Page def. AAA World Cruiserweight Champion Laredo Kid, Je’Von Evans and Rey Fenix in a Fatal 4-Way Match (AAA World Cruiserweight Championship Was Not Defended)

I had no idea Kid held gold in AAA, probably because it hasn't been acknowledged (to my knowledge) in NXT or TNA and I hadn't seen him with the belt until now. At any rate, this was the fun four-way you'd expect from these guys. Page wrestles such a drastically different style than the other three and that's why this worked. Even if the outcome wasn't in much doubt with Page recently having won the title, there were plenty of cool moments and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

AAA Mega Champion El Hijo del Vikingo def. Chad Gable

It's still strange to me that it was Gable who took on Vikingo and not his alter ego El Grande Americano (it was Americano who initially interacted with Vikingo at WrestleMania after all), but the match quality would've been the same, regardless. This was an excellent main event and easily the best bout of the entire event. Vikingo's offense is out of this world and Gable was the perfect opponent for him. If and when Vikingo shows up on a WWE broadcast again, here's hoping they still allow him to go all out and not have him hold back because he truly is among the best in the world in terms of what he can go.

Overall Show

The fact this aired on WWE's YouTube channel instead of on Peacock definitely increased its exposure, so that was a smart call. The video packages that played throughout the event discussing the history of AAA were also effective in catching new fans up to speed. This was a fantastic introduction to the AAA product with several strong matches and a hot crowd that made everything even more entertaining. We'll see how much crossover there is between WWE and AEW going forward and if we'll get another one of these shows before the year is through.
