"Christmas Bounty" Review

First and foremost, I am a massive fan of The Miz (or a massive Mizfit if you will), so that was one of the leading factors in why I decided to watch this movie. Granted, I probably would have watched it regardless had it featured any other WWE Superstar, but I have yet to see The Marine 3 (it is on my long list of things to watch, trust me) and wanted to see how Miz could fare at acting. All in all, I thought it was a fun film for what it was, but I could easily see why some people would see it as predictable or throwaway. You have to keep in mind while watching the movie that it was produced by and aired on ABC Family, a channel known for airing cliche Christmas movies every year. That being said, Miz played his role to perfection and definitely showed that he very well might have career in acting once he is done with wrestling.

I somewhat understood the premise of the film prior to watching it, but I was completely lost within the first 20 minutes or so. It might have been because I couldn't hear it all that well (I watched it on the big screen and my family was making noise in the background), but I didn't really get what the goal of the main characters was until a quarter into the movie. Miz portrayed the ex-boyfriend (whose name is also Mike coincidentally enough) of the main character Tara Bell, played by Francia Raisa (who is absolutely gorgeous by the way). They dated at one point, broke up, and still apparently had a "thing" for each other during the movie despite the fact Tara is already engaged to another man that doesn't know of her hobby as a bounty hunter.

By looking at the title, one would assume that the movie mostly consists of action when it actuality, it doesn't. Granted, there are some scenes that are action-packed, but they are far and few between surprisingly enough. The fight scenes were believable and with Miz being a WWE Superstar, he seemed to fit right in. The movie actually featured more romance than you would initially think, but that isn't a bad thing. I thought the growing relationship between Tara and Mike was cute and was a nice underlying tone to the story that culminated well in the end.

Furthermore, the movie isn't all that Christmas themed, either. You can obviously tell it is Christmas time during the opening scene at the mall and at other points in the movie, but it surely isn't a focal point of the film. It could have been any other time of the year and the plot of the movie wouldn't have been altered at all. I thought of it more as an additional tag that ABC Family can use to release it during their "25 Days of Christmas" lineup more than anything else. However, the premise of the movie was different than any other Christmas movie I have seen and thought it was a nice change of pace from what we usually see around this time of the year.

Despite the fact it aired on ABC Faimly, there were some parts that were a bit too risque for the normal family audience. I looked at the rating of the movie and laughed when I saw it was rated PG-14, realizing it had a higher rating than Raw! In all seriousness, though, it is a family friendly movie for the most part and an enjoyable movie to watch around the holiday season, even if most of the movie has nothing to do with Christmas

Should you watch this movie? Yes.
